anti-nausea meds for Imuran

Why haven't you tried ginger? You only said it doesn't help but have you tried it again? You have nothing to lose really. It was my savior. I had a really bad time with imuran nausea too.

Antibodies happen rapidly at first exposure to humira, if they are going to happen at all. So, Imuran for multiple months when starting is all you need.

Mine sometimes hits right when I wake up, too. If I ever got dry heaves, that would be totally unacceptable for me and I would immediately stop taking this Imuran. I am sorry you have to deal with that.

Yeah, I tried GoodRx and CVS (the only pharmacy in the town I live in) can't get it to work. The only GoodRx I found for Zoran is $17 for 10 of the 4 mg pills. They don't have anything for the 8 mg pills that either I or CVS could find (they looked for me while I was standing there).

You can take Miralax for a long time? Won't I get dependent on it?

Not saying you must wait longer, if you're crying about taking this med that's making you suffer from bad nausea. Either are valid choices (waiting or not) and it truly depends what you and your doctor think is best. If it's unbearable then easy to stop, if it is mild then easier to justify holding out, if you;re somewhere in the middle than harder to determine. Whatever your gut feeling is ;-)

The most common case is someone is on a given biologic a year or less, and then it ceases working (as was the case for you and remicade). It is a lot less common to be on remicade 5 years and then it suddenly ceases working.

Why? To our immune system, remicade/humira looks just like the cold virus (both are blood born, cellular surface acting proteins of foreign origin). Our immune system is most active when initially exposed to the cold virus. If it is initially unsuccessful in creating antibodies, the activity goes silent. The second most active phase is during the waning/discontinuation phase. Suppose elevated body temperature was successful in getting the upper hand against the cold virus, now there are dead and dying cold virus bits floating around our blood which are easy targets for the immune system. So, the immune system aggressively tried to create antibodies against this easy target. With biologics, this is when you have too little of that biologic within your veins or if you cease taking the med due to a lapse in shipping/insurance battle/etc.

Last time I bought special ginger chews. Ginger tea definitely would do nothing. I used to drink that often. Tastes good. I cook with ginger often. Are you saying you make tea or just chew on the actual root? I still am certain it wouldnt help me. 3 to 4 months...wow. i can't believe you're having to restart and go through that again. i would be devastated.

I didn't take the Imuran tonight.

Ok, I realized maybe that's what you meant and edited my post. I don't want to take a med that makes me feel like a cancer patient (I know cancer is way worse but in my head, that's how I've felt) and feel like I'm poisoning myself. If I decide to keep taking it, I'll try chewing on ginger root. I never heard of anyone doing that.

For me, the nausea just kept getting progressively worse. I tried ginger capsules but all that really lead to was burping up ginger - no real relief. I skipped one day of Imuran and then tried taking it at night instead, as I had read that might help. Ended up vomiting. Stopped taking it and the nausea went away.

The nausea went away within a day or two, probably. I just remember the nausea/fatigue being so debilitating that I was so relieved when I stopped (even though the UC symptoms ended up coming back soon). It was definitely not a side effect I was willing to live with long term and I wasn't even sure if it was doing anything (I was on pred at the same time while I waited for Imuran to kick in). It sounds like you're taking it for a different reason though, so I'm not sure whether it's worth holding out for another couple of months to prevent antibodies while you're on Humira. I wouldn't blame you if you stopped - nausea is no joke.
