Male Sperm while being on Remicade or Humira

Does anyone know if it is ok for a male to have kids while being on Remicade or Humira? Does it affect the sperm?

HUMIRA: 13.1 Carcinogenesis, Mutagenesis, Impairment of Fertility
Long-term animal studies of HUMIRA have not been conducted to evaluate the carcinogenic potential or its effect on fertility. No clastogenic or mutagenic effects of HUMIRA were observed in the in vivo mouse micronucleus test or the Salmonella-Escherichia coli (Ames) assay, respectively.

REMICADE: 13.1 Carcinogenesis, Mutagenesis, Impairment of Fertility
No clastogenic or mutagenic effects of infliximab were observed in the in vivo mouse micronucleus test or the Salmonella-Escherichia coli (Ames) assay, respectively. It is not known whether infliximab can impair fertility in humans. No impairment of fertility was observed in a fertility and general reproduction toxicity study with the analogous mouse antibody used in the 6-month chronic toxicity study.

You should be ok. It targets a TNF-alpha in the inflammatory cascade, so, in theory, it shouldn't affect fertility or have any effect on your sperm.

How much does it cost to get it checked? I would check.

Like pap smear for women, I think, once males hit 20, sperms should be checked and be checked at least once in 2 years before they decide to have kids. Currently, I strongly think, there are too many parameters out there that can affect sperms. Plus, I think current sperms tests are really not enough to test their 'performance', genetic aspects is another thing to worry.

I've been told by several drs that remicade or humira are safe for men to be on while trying to get pregnant.  I guess you need to decide what you are comfortable with.  The message I received is that it is worse to have active disease than to be on an anti-tnf.  My first dr told me of a male patient who could not get pregnant with his wife, ended up going on remicade and still no luck with preganacy and then to take care of some peripheral arthritis he added on sulfasalazine and ended up getting his wife pregant with a healthy baby.  You never know.
