I know a lot of people on here try to stay grain free but a lot of doctors and even people suggest eating white rice to help relieve the "D". So that being said... Who still indulges in some white rice and what are your symptoms?

I eat very light when I am flaring. I tried avoiding all grain for a few months and my symptoms didn't improve at all. I can tell you, the only way I could make it through a day of work while flaring was to not eat. I would only eat a light dinner because if I had food before or during work, I'd be in the bathroom all day. but, in my experience, I don't see any reason to stop eating white rice.

When I was very sick, rice is the only thing I could eat.

Actually my GI recommends rice. I also find mashed potatoes to sit well with me.

When I was real bad rice was all I could eat. That and scrambled eggs.

I eat white rice all the time. I eat really light when I am flaring too, but I eat what I want.....if I didn't, I wouldn't get anything down.

I am mostly paleo, but I function much better with some grains, particularly rice, flaring or not.

I haven't seen much difference in diet concerning my UC. I do try to avoid excessive amounts of fiber and fruits and I avoid raw veggies altogether. I can eat white rice and brown rice and have no problems with either. I think this is a disease where you just have to see what works for you and what doesn't and that itself can even change depending on your current UC status. One thing I have learned though is not to condemn any food just due to one incident. There have been several foods where I ate them and had a horrible next few hours and then turned around and ate that very same food the very next day and went 9 hours without a BM, having no issues at all. With this disease it is very easy to find a food guilty when in fact it was not. Sometimes it is a cumulative effect where mixing several different foods is what causes the problem, not any one particular food by itself.

I ate so much jasmine rice last year during my flare. I had a bowl every day and it was really filling.
obviously, since I changed my diet to grain free, my symptoms have decreased, but at the time, I stuck to low residue grains.

I'm going to cook some white rice tonight with my tilapia. Haven't had it in a while and have been craving it. Hopefully all my symptoms stay the same.

When I was flaring my gut could not tolerate grains at all, including rice. Now I have no problem with white rice but brown rice still has too much fiber. When flaring it's low-low fiber for me, no matter what the food.

I'm also starting to realize that the amount of food I'm consuming is contributing to the number of BM's. However I'm going to add a bit of grains back in and see what happens tonight or tomorrow morning. I was mostly eating quinoa for the past week and didn't have many issues.

I eat rice...I don't change my diet too much when I'm flaring. I tend to be nauseated as well, so I base what I eat on that too. I do have salad, but softer mixed greens than romaine, etc. I do eat less than a lot.
Quinoa is awesome, the red has more texture than the white. Mixed, it's good.
High fat/oil tends to make my nausea much worse. Mix that with garlic..ugh!
I do well on meat, well cooked really soft veggies and grains.
Coffee can trigger a bit of twitchy butt syndrome near the time to go, and if there's anything in the sigmoid or butt I'll definitely have to go when flaring.
But I don't cut it out...I may limit the amount I drink.

I have never tried red quinoa but will definitely give it a try. I completely have cut out coffee right now since I'm flaring.

White rice was one of the few things I could eat during my first flare. I lived in a dorm with a dining hall downstairs, but it was kind of like a food court instead of a cafeteria. I would go downstairs, head to the "Asian Cuisine" station, and get white rice and a bunch of soy sauce packets. I'd also pick up bottles of apple juice, since I was constantly getting dehydrated and am terrible about
drinking water.
White rice is lower in fiber than brown rice (easier on the colon) and it's low residue (more broken down/absorbed into the system, less ends up becoming stool).

the longer I go w/o eating rice and corn, the less appealing it sounds - kinda messes with my fondness for Mexican food :-(
fortunately I've acquired a fondness for feeling good
