Hello! I feel like I somewhat know y'all --I have been getting tips and countless information since my Sept 2012 diagnosis of proctosigmoid uc. A little about me...
I am a mother of four, wife of one, working as a nurse in the hills of tn-- though I will always be a Texan at heart. I was diagnosed with a mild case of uc --35 cm with my symptoms at the time consisting mainly of bloody poops ( I never had d-- always more on the constipated side), and what eventually looked like the lining of my colon. That is what finally made me make my first gi appt.
Had my c -scope - got the diagnosis and was started on asacol 800 Mg three times a day with a one week steroids taper. The first 4 days were great--i had zero symptoms -- no bleeding, but also no poops. Then blood started again-- and I started researching.
Immediately I found the scd diet and began that. I was very strict and I noticed slow improvement. I also found this website and started trying different supplements-- but never giving them enough time. If I did not see improvements after one bottle - I moved on. For the next 6 months it was a rollercoaster of emotions and symptons improving and then backsliding. My gi wanted to start me on something stronger. I told him I was going to try accupuncture and he could also write for uceris and enemas.
That was in march of this year-- the next day I had my first appt with an accupuncturist who also specializes in functional medicine. I started weekly accupuncture treatments and he also had me take isatis cooling. I also started psyllium seed powder. Within a month most blood was gone- maybe a little on tp. I continued taking isatis cooling and then I did start getting the cramping diarrhea-- I thought-- o.k-- here we go, but I never had bleeding. I stopped taking the isatis cooling and within a day things started getting back to normal.
I feel like I had to share what has worked for me as of now and I pray that it continues to work. It is my hope that it will help someone else. I continue to follow a scd/ paleo diet-- though on a recent trip to Orlando I waivered and did have some bleeding ( a few isatis cooling and I was back on track). I am about to go back to school and get my nurse practitioner degree along with masters in holistic nursing. I plan on being a catalyst for change in how chronic diseases are dealt with in our healthcare system.
Thanks for reading and thanks for the endless amount of knowledge posted.
