Im hoping someone else has gone through this besides me. I started my day with a couple of scary bloody stools and then bam, I was exhausted, and it was an effort to even go to the bathroom. I noticed my temp went up, sweat on my forehead and general overall feeling of bla. Like the flu but it went from 0 to 100 in about an hour. Then I started to shake teeth chattering at first but then full on body tremors. The only thing that made me stop shaking was a hot shower. I then slept for about 5 hours im scared something else is wrong besides the UC. Anyone else have this prob or is this just a bad flare?

no, I had something similar and the exact thing, went in the shower and then slept with clothes on in the middle of summer. I sweat it off and I was ok after a day.

Probably not UC per say but temporary collateral damage because of UC.

It may be UC symptoms, or it may not be. I often had fevers and fatigue with UC. Time will tell.

Way back when I first got UC I had episodes like yours. On a 100 degree days I got chills and extreme fatigue, etc. Mine was related to UC extreme constipation, felt like my blood pressure plummeted and there was no blood in my extremities, blue nails. Tried to explain it to a doctor but they had no answers.

The extreme constipation turned into extreme diarrhea (months later) without the blood pressure drop but still the extreme fatigue. The colon is a very large body part and is telling you it's hurt and needs help.
Yours reasons may be different than mine but it's probably UC-related not some other problem.

I recently read that fever is a good thing when you have an infection, burns out the invaders, and not to try and avoid the fever unless it's over 102 for more than 2 days.

It may be something other than UC, especially if this is not normal for you. Keep a close eye on it. There is a bad stomach bug going around in certain states that needs to be checked out by a doctor because it can last over a month.

I think I've had that in the past, when the pains were so frequent and intense that I began to overheat from all the exhaustion, I may have has a fever for a few moments, including the teeth chattering when I began to cool off and felt the chills. If I recall correctly, it didn't come out of nowhere, but towards or around the rock bottom of a flare.

I have had this happen twice recently. Talked with my GI yesterday because I was afraid it might signal an infection of some kind, because it was preceded both times with extremely violent bloody D, then the temp spike, chills, aches. He said it was my UC. Sorry you are experiencing this. I know first hand it sucks. Good luck.

I've had a few episodes like that in my lifetime, and my husband has as well. Definitely not related to UC for me...but I do believe that we do pick up things such as viruses/bacteria..whatever, and our bodies react immediately and fiercely.

What comes with it is every extremity is painful and a headache happens too.

toiletcamper....Since you are having bleeding and most probably UC symptoms...if it continues or gets worse, maybe have stool samples done.

Are you on any meds?

I've had a few episodes where I've run a low-grade fever along with having the chills and just feeling generally run down. One time, my fever remained high for a few days, and I ended up going to the ER. I was also dehydrated and was given 2 bags of fluids along with steroids and an antibiotic. Last week and into this past weekend, I ran a low-grade fever, which thankfully didn't get above 100.9 this time.

The best thing you can do while having these symptoms is to stay hydrated. If you don't, your fever will only rise. Drink a ton of water, and get some electrolytes in your system. My favorite way to do this is to drink electrolyte water (Smar***er or 365 Whole Foods brand) and Vitamin Water Zero that doesn't contain phosphoric acid.

sounds like you could have the flu or some other type of virus. if you don't start to improve in a day or two you might want to go see your doctor just to find out exactly what it is.

This. Fevers were a regular part of my life for years. I should add it was Crohn's colitis rather than UC, but I don't think it really makes much difference.

That said, if this is the first time this has happened to you, then it could be any one of fifty things. But if you start getting chronic fevers/chills, I would strongly suspect active UC.

This problem actually led me straight to the emergency room! I had everything you described the temperature and uncontrollable body shakes. The shakes continued in the hospital and they lasted around 30 minutes. It could be the UC and it could also be linked to dehydration or infection. Make sure you drink enough water!
