your best and worst colonoscopy

my best colonoscopy was... "your colon is totally fine!"

my worst colonoscopy was... "your colon is friable- severe pancolitis."

I prefer the first outcome though.

i've only had one & didn't even actually speak to my gi afterward.
he wrote on a piece of paper "ulcerative colitis" "prescription for asacol, 4 per day in morning" and i had a follow up appointment one or two weeks later to see how i was doing.

most forgettable colonoscopy

I recall my friend picking me up and taking me home, and I felt so bad that I got in bed with all my clothes on. When I woke up the next morning I saw that someone had broken into my house, pulled a chair over to the cupboard to get the toaster out from the top shelf, made toast with jam and left the plate, knife,jam and toaster out.
Uh................no. That apparently was me in the middle of the night with no memory of actually doing it. [All doors and windows firmly locked and friend said he did not make toast at my house for me or anyone!] No history of ever doing this prior or after. My doc said they may have given me a little too much of the meds and said that one was indeed "an amenesiac"

Um... I only ever had two... I guess the first one was the best because I felt good afterwards, I finally got a diagnosis for why I was feeling so awful, and the doctor told me after a few weeks on Asacol I'd be back to normal (LOL). It was "moderate-severe inflammation" throughout about 2/3 of my colon.

The results of the second one were technically slightly better, I guess, "mild-moderate pancolitis with backwash ileitis," but it was a horrible experience. I woke up in the middle of the upper endoscopy and got dosed with too much extra sedative, so I was nauseous and disoriented for about eight hours after the scope. I also had my one and only public accident on the floor in the recovery room because as soon as I came to I told the nurse I had to go to the bathroom and she told me I wasn't allowed to get up because I would fall and hurt myself. I listened to her for about 30 seconds... you know how the rest goes.

best ! - I fell asleep !!!!

worst... - I didn't.....

Seriously guys, the prep is awful, feels like you are the rocket and have ability to shoot in the space but have to hold on to the seat tightly. I get it.

But colonoscopy, really? Apart from the air left inside which is painful (and pain if you have bad inflammation), it is not really an issue. Be happy that they give you propofol in this country. When I was in Sweden, they just inject something to slow down your peristalsis, if they give anything at all and stick the scope in when you are wide awake (and tell you to watch the screen). I have had at least 20 sigmoidoscopies without any darn thing, no prep, no injection no sedative. My local GI says, I am brave.. (hell no, it saves me $500 bucks, so I get my act together..).

Personally, I do not have any worst experience really, except the air that is trapped inside. I feel like colonoscopy procedure as it is, is over-hyped.

Best: First one which led to diagnosis. It was all novel and a bit of a lark to me back then, and I was healthy enough that I felt right as rain 10 minutes after the procedure was over.

Worst: The fifth and final one by a country mile. Physically, it was infinitely more gruelling than the first one because I was so much more ill by then. It showed Crohn's disease throughout the colon, but because the stricture they had suspected wasn't there (probably because of being on Pred), they BSed to me and my parents about how well I was doing, how I wouldn't need surgery etc. Three months later I was back in hospital and the talk went from not needing surgery to needing an ileostomy: my dad literally could not understand it.
