If i go to the hospital ..

All they can do is put me on steroids right??

I dont want steroids i cant tolerate them physically or mentally.

But things are really not goood now.

Im on 6mp. 75 mg and mezavant pills

I tried enemas and i dont tolerate physically either. Steroid bassed enemas make my joints feel like they are going to fall out.

I feel so stuck

They could put you on Remicade in the hospital, you might get a fast reaction to it or at least some relief.

It might be a good idea to leave a message at your GI's office and maybe you will get a call back from the doctor who is on call.

I was also offered this past week to go into the hospital on either IV steroids or Cyclosporine. I declined both, actually I am feeling better the last couple of days but still suffering. I'd be in the hospital right now for surgery but the surgeon that I want to use does not take my insurance and it will take me about 45 days for me to switch policies which I am doing tomorrow.

They could do iron infusions, blood transfusions, a few bags of saline for a re-hydration (which I've found super helpful), and ya some steroids too...

If you feel you need to go to the hospital, I wouldn't ignore that feeling. The two times I've been, I really feel like a lot as has been accomplished in terms of getting me to where I need to be.

The first time around, I had a scope and I moved forward with starting up Remicade. The second time, I had two blood transfusions, an iron infusion, and two scopes. Turns out the steroids messed up something in my esophagus and it was causing me to throw up. Something completely separate from the UC. And then I was crazy anemic. Blood and iron transfusions leveled that out quite nicely... Although still trying to get things on track in that regard.

Not to mention, the daily blood work and additional tests they do never hurt to have done with a little bit more immediacy.

I went because just coughing was 'too painful' so we did the CT scan to learn if it was toxic megacolon.

Nope - but I got the meds I needed and only one bag of water I.V. - was hoping for several bags of water.

I agree, the reason to go is to get faster tests, labs, even scopes, but at great expense.

In my case I was done with out of pocket from the head-on collision in February when a monster truck totalled mine.

So I expect my ER trip to be very low cost. I also had dumped my GI and could not easily get prednisone and he would never give me vicodin even though it calms my UC but the ER gave me both plus the CT scan and should have put more water in me IV but I resumed my 2 weeks off and was back to work planting large trees in the heat plus a zillion other projects.

Well i went !!
And i felt like a hypocondriact that goes for nothing!!!
I passed fairly fast because of my vitals but the dr said that its no use staying because the GI was not there !!!
They did a blood test didnt even wait for the results and said to go!
They will call me in the morning if theres anything :(

I don't even bother going to the local hospital ER for my flares, I go to a hospital were they have a GI ward on 2 floors with GIs and nurses there 24x7 who know what they are doing. I know that the local hospital if I am admitted will just send me to the other hospital with the GI ward in 2-3 days so why should I even bother going to the local hospital... So I don't.

An easy way to find out is to ask your GI where they would send you for J-pouch surgery(not that I am suggesting that you get surgery) but usually those surgeries are at major medical centers where they have GI wings.

You don't want to go for surgery at a local hospital unless it is a major medical center, You weren't happy with your recent visit to their ER.

Where are you now, at the hospital? Why don't they do a colonoscopy instead of throwing opinions left and right.

Here, they will do a coloscopy if you have elbow problem. I'm exagerating, but if I want a colonoscopy in the next week, I'll get it.
