Hey, I saw in another thread that you've been admitted to the hospital for suspected colon perforation. 

How are you?  I hope that all is well and please update us when you can.  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for good news and will keep you in my thoughts.

Bananagirl,

I wanted to wish you well and please keep us up to date about your condition if you can.

If you can get to a major medical center or university hospital that specializes in GI/IBD issues I would really recommend it, there is a different level of care at these hospitals (than local hospitals) because they have wings/floors of the hospitals that specialize in IBDs and surgeries (if you need it).

Ok, I didn't want to say the S-word but since ks brought it up... IF they are going to take out your colon, do NOT let them give you a j-pouch during this surgery. If the colon is going to go, you want to have time to get back to health and find a surgeon and hospital with a LOT of experience -- think hundreds and hundreds of j-pouch surgeries. They can remove your colon if it's perf'ed and leave you the option of getting a j-pouch later without actually making it in this surgery. I don't think it's likely they would offer you a j-pouch construction during an emergency colectomy but it happens.

Bananagirl, I'm sure everything will be OK, people have much much more serious cases than you and they get over everything and live up to one hundred. I'm with u with all my thoughts!

Hey everyone, this is Jennie, I'm Joanna's sister. She started feeling very sick on Saturday and had to come to the hospital in the middle of the night. The doctors came in today and told her that her colon is in terrible condition and she doesn't really have any other options but to get it removed at this point. She's scared out of her mind, and is worried about the recovery and living life with a bag. I'm so scared for her too. I didn't realize it has gotten so bad to the point where I could lose my big sister, and this surgery seems to be the best thing. I just don't want her self esteem to be horrible after the surgery, and I don't want her to feel bad about herself because she's honestly the most beautiful person I know.. inside and out.. and I never want her to think any less of herself. Sorry for this long post, Jo just wanted me to update you all about what was going on, and I needed to get this all off my chest. Please keep her in your prayers and hope for a quick recovery!

Hey Jennie,

Thanks so much for coming here to keep us updated. I hate that Joanna, your family and you are having to go through this right now. It is obvious just by the little interaction I've had with here on this board that she is a very special person, and she is lucky to have the love and support of you and the rest of your family. I am a young woman myself, and a little over 4 months ago I was VERY sick and didn't have time to try anything but surgery. I also opted to have a bag for life, and I have been happy and healthy ever since. The road ahead won't be totally easy, but if Jo does have the surgery, in time she will feel SO much better. If she, you, or anyone else in your family would like to talk about what the surgery is like, what it's like for a young woman to live with a bag, or anything else...don't hesitate to ask me ANYthing at all.

Thank you for the update, Jennie.

It's normal for Joanna to be scared ...anyone would be.

In my perspective, she's already been through the worst. The situation is for her to now heal after her colon is removed. I have absolutely no doubt she'll do what's needed to recover and come through this with strength and dignity intact.

She has much support here...give her a huge hug from me and all at Healing Well....(That's a LOT of hugs).

Your love and support will help her immensely.

Please keep us informed on how she's doing.

Joanna, you have fought so hard. I know that life is going to be so much better for you after the surgery. Praying for miraculous healing in these coming days of recovery and for you to feel so good so instantly that you have not one single regret and cant see this new chance at life as anything other then beautiful.

That's really sad. I was just telling my husband yesterday about her story and how hopeful I was that her upcoming FT study would work out.

Tell her many people out there are thinking of her and wishing her well.

Thank you all for the love and support. She was so happy to hear all of your comments, they definitely helped raise her spirits. The surgery will probably be on Thursday, and I'll let you all know how it goes since i'm assuming Jo won't be feeling too great.
