Hi UC friends, just wanted to post a quick update (my long drawn out story is on the Ostomies forum)... As of Wednesday my temporary ileostomy was REVERSED and since Thursday night I have been pooping again, and I am now
home
!
It's been exactly 200 days since my first surgery. Back then I was hopelessly ill, pred dependent, battling rare side effects from meds (optic nerve neuralgia), limited to a diet of bread and chicken, and completely incontinent. Since then I've gone back to work, back to food, med free, and although my j-pouch is still very fresh, I haven't had any issues with incontinence. I am having about
10 BMs per day and expect it to slow down as I eat more solids (my BMs are still mostly liquid due to fasting for surgery and intestines waking up).
Well that's all. THANK YOU for all of the support!

Welcome home Liz! I didn't realise you were in the hospital.
Happy to hear all went well!
Continue the good recovery....looking forward to your future updates.

oh liz! that's such great news. you are such a fighter and i'm so glad your new pouch is treating you well. I was told it stretches as you heal so hopefully your bm's will go down a little. I've been reading your blog a lot to prepare myself and I really appreciate everything you write. it helps me feel like I can do it.

Good news.. and good encouragement to those of us facing problems.
It seems to me surgery is the best option to return to a normal life, rather than fighting on with meds and all the problems they give. I will have no hesitation to go for surgery if my UC gets worse..
