I also was diagnosed with UC in Feb 2013, Universal & rectum. Have been on Lialda 6mos with little relief, other than when I used the Mesamaline enema, my bleeding ceased for abt 2 wks. My Dr prescribed Prednisone taper recently, had it filled, but afraid to take it.
Took myself off Lialda week ago, On my 3rd day of SCD diet, no improvement yet. Was off Fiber Con 2/day, for few days, started it back today. Little history.... chronic constipation/ IBS for yrs, IBS got worse with age, treated for H Pylori summer of 2011, 3 strong antibiotics, upper GI after treatment Oct 2011, showed no ulcers in stomach. UC symptoms actually started summer 2012, was out of State and didnt have Colonoscopy til Feb 2013. Was taking Acacia powder probiotic for IBS, stopped it May this yr, cut my potty trips down from 10 to 6.....haven't decided on another one yet.

Since the enemas did stop symptoms briefly, I asked abt a possible combo of it & oral, but he wants to try Prednisone. Any input is welcome, have been reading your posts, glad to find this site. Feeling alone & discouraged with this!! I'm 64 & retired so I do feel for you young ones with this disease and so much on your plate!

Sherbear, Thank you for your response! I was taking 3 Lialda then he increased it to 4. I don't have D., its mostly bloody sludge, as I call it, several times a day, lotta urgency with it, at times! I will start the Lialda again, still have 90 day scrip, just wanted to see if the SCD diet would help. We are out of State for summer, will see my Dr. Again first of Oct. He prescribed the Prednisone over the phone, but I'm resisting starting it. I was afraid of it, even before I read some posts on here abt it!! ;)

I have been diagnosed with UC for 5 yrs. When I moved to south of DFW in a rural area and did not have insurance they gave me 60mg prednisone for the last 8 months. I'm out in the woods and not many docs to choose from. I finally switched doctors but just had a flare and ended up in hospital for 5 days on antibiotics and pain meds. Colonoscopy overall came back decent, I was starting to feel better. After 2 days at home Pain came back quick with alot of blood in my stool, dr said go to er and they said it was withdrawal from pain meds. I'm worried about what's really going on? Any similar stories?
