im kinda still in a flare now guys, have loose but formed stools trying to beat them, still playing around with diet, havent made the jump yet to scd or paleo yet , trying to see if i can or need to give up my rice.... anyway i read that bananas are great for colitis so i added them back in blended with a shake, seemed to go right through me, anyone else get this as opposed to just eating the banana? i might try eating half a banana today since the literature seems to point that it will help

Nope, nothing helps. I tried it all, it's all over. Furthermore, I went and wrote my will amongst other legal documents I needed to fill in.
True story, well, at least the last part.

Green bananas are good for your colon. I add them to my smoothies in the morning.

Bananas were always a soothing, safe food for me to eat while flaring. I was limited to three things to eat: scrambled eggs, turkey sandwiches and bananas.

I quit eating bananas except in muffin or bread. Uncooked they hate me.

Green Banana's are an excellent source of Resistant Starch and have been helpful-I eat them everyday. Search for "resistant starch" on this board-there is a great deal of information and many people have found some level of relief.
Best...

I discovered that many UC'rs are short on the digestive enzyme DAO, which neutralizes excess dietary histamine, causing you to have a histamine intolerance. Not everyone has this but a lot of UC'rs do and don't know it. Whenever I ate foods that are high in histamines my UC would get worse and go right through as you describe. Bananas are high in histamine, as are a lot of fruits. The more ripe they are the higher in histamines they are. I don't know what the histamine content of green bananas is but regular to ripe bananas will be a major problem if you are short on DAO.

I can't eat many bananas. One less ripe one is my limit.

all I have to say is that it couldn't possibly be the bananas. I refuse to believe it.

Does that shake have lactose in it? That may be the culprit. Try eating one slightly overripe and see if that helps per the SCD "bible" haha

what else are you putting into your smoothie? fruits like mango will definitely make you poop. and are you drinking it too fast? i try to have a smoothie a couple of days a week & drink it at work over a 2 - 3 hour period, that way it doesn't run right through me as it might if i gulped it down too fast.
1 banana, 3/4 cup frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, 2 heaping tablespoons plain greek yogurt, 1 cup almond milk, 1 tablespoon l-glutamine powder, 1 scoop of the protein powder listed in my signature, and a small handful of almonds to add a nice texture to it. SO GOOD.

I've tried regular bananas, unripe bananas, ripe bananas, cooked bananas as in banana bread (gluten-free using almond meal) and all are disliked by my colon. Don't know whether it's the fructose or the starch.
I would love to eat bananas :-( but cannot.
If you were doing fine with your shakes before adding bananas the it's the bananas. If not then you have to do an "elimination" to figure out what the problem food is.
