Gastritis Question again...Quincy? Others?

Hi all,

So I know this is a UC forum, but I have been on this forum forever and you are my peeps..so...

As a continuation of my last post....My Dr. thinks I have Gastritis from description of my symptoms.  He thought to take PPI (Prilosec) but pharmacist liked Pepsid..thought I should try H2 blocker.  (Quincy also thought H2 blocker first..lol).  So I am taking Pepsid AC 10mg at night and it does help.  Unf. doesn't last the whole day.  Says you can take up to 2/day.  I decided to take an extra half. Boy was I nauseaus and not feeling well from it.  I obviously can only take 1. 

Here are the questions....

-If one H2 blocker causes nausea, would a different one do the same thing?

-Would PPI also cause nausea

 -Would this point in any way to Crohns(gastritis?  One pharmacist did point to that as a possibility)

-Finally, would taking one Pepsid AC be enough to heal gastritis?

Ok, any help is appreciated.  This whole thing is so irritating.

Thanks Q, I really appreciate it. I didn't take the one and a half at the same time. I took the 1 pill at 8pm and than the 1/2 at 1 in the afternoon the next day. Seems like I only tolerate one pill. With my Lialda, I can only tolerate 2 pills tops. Apparantly doses can be an issue with me.

I am going to keep a food journal to see what I tolerate, but I am only able to eat small amounts at a time. I can't imagine what brought this on....I was never on pred. Only other meds besides UC meds are tylenol and occasional midrin.

Good to know that the Pepsid Ac could heal this on it's own. I guess I was worried that the 10mg dose wouldn't be enough. I have a Dr. appt in a few weeks, so hopefully I'll be better by than, if not, we can check it out.

Glad to hear that Crohns is not usually in the stomach. I have never had a GI question my diagnosis.

Ugh, this is so annoying and we are going on a 2 day trip (I haven't been anywhere in ages) so I was looking forward to it. Now, I don't know. Can't eat much in a resteraunt. Blows.

Thanks madabs. I didn't know you could combine Zantac and pepsid.

I wouldn't combine Zantac with Pepcid...but there are different forms of Pepcid you might want to consider to try...or try Zantac.

Your feeling of nausea could have been coincidental, worth a try again possibly.

Do the research on the different types...I checked up on it and I would stick to the formulations within that group first than mixing different types, especially 2 types of H2 antagonists without a proper diagnostic testing by your doctor.
