New to UC...and scared, is this normal?

I was diagnosed with UC in 2012 and my initial symptoms were diarrhea, with urgency, going about 15 times per day, cramping and blood. Currently I seem to be having a distressing problem and wanted to know if this is normal: when I pass gas a small amount of brown to tan liquid is expelled. Is this something that goes along with having UC or is this a sign of a serious problem? Sorry if this is a gross question or a dumb question. I have no one else to turn to and feel incredibly embarrassed about this. The other symptoms that I have currently is going about 4-5 times in mornings and bleeding. Thanks in advance to your help.

Thanks Katmom--I am taking Rowasa every night, Canasa in the morning (when I can remember), and Asachol 800mg (it was three times per day,) but it was increased to 2 pills three times per day. I added probiotics also. I also avoid spicey foods and sausage as those seem to make things worse for me.

Yep, a while back one forum member commented that when you have UC, passing gas becomes Russian roulette! You hope that only air comes out, but then there is the shart possibility. That means some mucus, stool, and/or blood comes out along with the gas. It bedevils us most when the rectum & sigmoid colon are inflamed. Keep up your meds! You could also ask your doctor to Rx Cortifoam, which is easier to use than supps & can help speed healing in the rectum. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
