Hi everyone back again after nearly a year of good solid remission
Almost forgot I had UC yes really!!
Best wishes to all still battling on !
Hope I can cope with this flare and its not severe!
Always interested in new ideas floating around about
what to try,I think I've tried more or less everything apart from fecal therapy.

What got you into your last remission? Have you been taking any meds while in remission?

I credit getting good again last time with pyslium seed/husk,and slippery elm both of which I can't stand and have to force myself to gulag them down so I don't take them if I'm doing Ok.
In the past five years,I've taken just about
every medication going, but the past year I've managed with nothing at all.
I don't really know what to do this time so I'm starting with the psyllium husk, slippery elm,and my own version of a diet which is a more forgiving version of SCD,and low residue which I have tweaked for myself,if this does'nt work I will have to go back to the Doc's I guess but I'm not keen as I've had way to many steroids in the past and all the other meds.
I'm also trying to be a bit kinder to myself but that is hard as I have young kids,my partner is not very sympathetic he thinks I should take pred and all the rest straight away, well he really thinks I should have had the op years ago when I was offered it buts that's another story!

I think you are going to have to bite the bullet and stay on psyllium husk & slippery elm for the rest of your life, even while in remission. Better than choking down pred every day or using immunemodulators or biologics.

Yer your probably right,
I only use the slippery elm normally when I see blood because my reckoning is it help decrease the blood but after when the bleeding stops it makes you produce way to much mucous which just becomes annoying and the psyllium which is good I should probably take all the time it's just like gouging down wall paper paste not really unpleasant it just makes me wretch for some reason and I found the capsules don't work for me.
I also take VSL 3 but this tends to increase gas for me,not sure if it does anything helpful also I've only taken it when flaring.
Trouble is like I said after a good year of remission I had begun to get complacent and imagine it was all like over and done with,I even went and did volentary work with the kids in Africa !
It sounds crazy now,but I stopped taking azathioprine mainly because I did'nt want to go to a country like Africa while on an immune suppressant, although I did read on this forum once about
a woman who travelled to South America while on azathioprine with no problems.
