on remicade, doc taking me off imuran

ive been on remicade since april and i can finally say i am in remission :) i went to see my GI a couple of weeks ago and she said that when i am done my bottle of imuran and allopurinol i can stop them both. have any of you gotten a flare after stopping imuran or 6mp while taking remicade?? im so worried about flaring again since ive been feeling so awsome these past few months.

I stopped my 6mp after being on Remi for about a year because 6mp was causing me to develop foot neuropathy. My Gi mainly wanted me on 6mp with the Remi to help me avoid building antibodies, but I did fine when I stopped. I never even had a blip.

I'm currently on remi, pred, asacol and imuran, hoping when I talk to my GI when getting my 3rd infusion we will discuss the possibility of tapering off of the prednisone. I am going to ask him what he thinks about stopping the imuran as well, but I heard it takes 3-6 months to even become fully effective. I'd rather stop the pred asap, but I know it is a long process of getting off of it. I'm just getting tired of taking so many pills throughout the day. I am improving though, so I can't really complain.

cyn, hopefully I will be able to do the same as you. Glad you are able to start reducing your meds, I know I just need patience. I'm hoping to eventually just be on Remicade and AsacolHD.

I was an unlucky one. I had to get off 6mp because of high liver enzymes and pretty soon after this happened, I flared. this was a week after my 5th remicade infusion. it was like I didn't get the infusion at all. I was so sad.
