asking this question because i generally dont like the "feeling" muscle relaxers give me but im having horrible horrible cramps and am willing to take the muscle relaxers just to get rid of these cramps. has anyone taken muscle relaxers for their cramps? and if so, did it help?

I've taken many muscle relaxers in the past. It helps my muscles but not my UC cramps. That is why I got a prescript
ion for Bentyl which is an anti-spasmodic. Also heating pads work well too.

ditto Sherry...Love Bentylol/Bentyl (dicyclomine).
Why are you not on any meds?

red, yea the muscle relaxers did nothing for my cramps. but they did help me sleep a little better so that's a plus. won't be taking them again for cramp relief though. i was putting a heating pad on my stomach but friends and family told me that can cause more bleeding, wasn't too sure if it was true but im already bleeding enough, i can't afford to bleed anymore.
quincy, if you are referring to my signature that says im on no medication, i have to change that. my Dr gave me samples of uceris, that I've been taking since Thursday. just waiting to see if its gonna help or not. trying to be patient but my patience is wearing thin.

My doctor prescribed me Levsin for the spasms associated with the colitis. Works for me. Of course, if I had no Levsin Tylenol works well also.

I've never had a heating pad make me bleed more. Perhaps your family and friend are getting confused with menstrual cycles? Because a heating pad can make you bleed a little more with that but not UC. Heat loosens the abdominal muscles which can help with intestinal cramping.
So you tried Lialda and it caused pancreatitis? You haven't tried any other med besides that? Left sided colitis (which is what I have too btw) responds well to Colazal and rectal meds such Rowasa or Colocort enemas. There is no need for you to suffer needlessly if there is a med out there that can help you. If you can't tolerate the 5-Asa's than I highly recommend you try Colocort enemas. It can help stop your flare on a local level instead of using an oral steroid. Uceris is is safer than Pred but you still get a systemic reaction as opposed to a rectal med.

red, well now i feel better about
the heating pad! because it was giving me relief, i just didn't want that relief to cause more damage. after i found out the lialda gave me pancreatitis my doctor put me on apriso, which caused the same pain lialda gave me(which turned out to be the pancreatitis) so my doctor took me off right away and wanted to try me on a whole different class of drugs. which is when we switched to the uceris.
