OT Chicken pox

Just about ready to put red cross on door first son now daughter have got chicken pox.
Daughter has been really very poorly with it thankfully son now back at school,they say it's worse the older you get daughter 15 and is absolutely covered also has had a very high temp and being sick
But worse bit over as have now started to scab.
So at least everyone in our house has now had it,oldest son had it when he was very young.
Cupboard full of anti itch lotion and pills
Fingers crossed she's 100% better by next weekend as due to go on boating holiday

I thought there was a vaccine for that?

There is Gary. My oldest didn't get it and he had more pox then my other son who had the vaccine. My daughter also got the vaccine and had maybe 10 pox on her.

Not widely available in the uk dr's don't tell you about it didn't find out until daughter read about it on the net but it would have been to late only has a short time span where it works and most of the time you don't know you've got it until its to late for the vaccine to be effective
That's what I've heard
But if it works would save a whole lot as daughter has had it really bad

I actually had them twice (yes, apparently it CAN happen! Maybe a clue then my immune system was off!?) had them BAD when I was 4 then again at 23-it was HORRIBLE!!

I had them when I was 17. I'm 36 so there was no vaccine option then. Holy moley I had them everywhere. Even inside my mouth. Having bad flashbacks!

Hope she feels better soon!!

Gosh, Lambkins, I'm sorry your daughter got it bad. Encourage her not to scratch any pox on her face; that's where it tends to scar. Most of my schoolmates came down with chicken pox at age 7-8, but I didn't get it 'til 11 1/2! I wasn't really sick; the worst part of it hit my face, though, so I had to stay out of school an extra week just because it looked so contagious, ugh! Those bloomin' scabs are nasty. Let us know how she's doing. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Think you do get it worse the older you get but looks like worse over as temp gone down and they are not so itchy but like you say trying to stop her from scratching is a nightmare but hopefully she will leave them alone knowing she will be scared for life if she does helps as she is such a pretty girl

Yeah, they can hit at any time, even for those few of us who have had them in childhood and they happen again (maybe not enough immunity in the system).

I hope she heals quickly.

Have you had the shingles vaccine?
