Asacol costing $150 a month now lol smh.

I've been off asacol for a few months but want to add a 5asa again. My insurance is making me pay 150 a month so scratch that idea. Any other brands not considered non formulatory? I see they switched it up. Sometimes i worry more about my insurance than uc its self :/

The formularies are different even between some company's policies but Balasalzide and sulfasalazine are usually preferred generic. Generic rowasa sometimes is also. Never know until you check.

How about lialda with the assistance card. I pay $10/month!

Really depends on the company, but like AZYooper said Balsalazide is usually covered as a generic. Never heard of the lialda assistance card but that sounds like a good alternative!

Lialda does have an assistance card. I have one but it works differently depending on your insurance. It saves me about $125 because I pay $475 as opposed to $600. It works best for those that have a copay on their medicine, probably most people. I don't have a copay. I pay full amount up to my deductible but then my meds and doctor visits, etc. are all completely free once my deductible has been met.

I just switched from Asacol to Apriso and they are less expensive. They also have a patient assistance card. It's worth checking into. Also ask your doc for samples. It helps a lot!

You can google your insurance companies formulary, or call them and request it. You can then take the list to your doc so he knows what to prescribe.
I also have the Lialda card and it costs me $10a month as well.

The Lialda card is great for me. It only pays upto $120 (you have to pay at least $10), and my co-pay on 90 pills is about $200. BUT - I only get $72 pills, and my cost is then about $15. I refill as soon as possible, so I have used the card about 11 times by September. I also get some samples from my GI. The great thing is that the $120/refill that the card pays counts towards my copay-cap. Caremark (prescription plan) does not care who pays - as long as it is not them, it counts towards the cap. I need to hit $2580, and the approx $1400 from Shire helps me get there. I also have a smaller benefit from two other companies for prescriptions not related to UC. I only have to make about $600 in copays and then almost everything (except VSL) is 100% covered Oct-Nov-Dec. Definitely get one of these cards if you take Lialda.

so cl, the big question is ......... why have you been off your meds - you know what garyloovil has to say about that !

are you flaring. thinking about flaring, or just miss the daily ritual of popping pills ?

what else are doing besides NOT doing asacol ?

and I hear you about the insurance thing - that's why I have a wife so I don't have to deal with it -

Yea, next year Asacol will cost me about $430 a month, I was paying $50.

Mike, I suggested in another thread that you could try reordering your Asacol HD every 3 weeks and stockpile the meds. I do that, although I have recently switched to Lialda but I'm doing it with that too.

gary - Just saw that, thanks. I think I'm going to do the mail order as well at the end of december, buy 2 months get 1 free.
