OT - thyroid update

I have a cyst on mine. Had a biopsy done. Not a pleasant procedure. It was fine! They did it because it was over a cm.They said I had a few.

The only concern I have is due to my past history of cysts, my cysts tend to grow very quickly, large and I've had 3 that became infected. I had one drained from my breast that grew from the size of a pea to the size of a golf ball in 2 weeks and another one on my ovary that was 6cms drained laparoscopically. Not to mention many other cysts removed or shot up with steroids.

So at this point, I will be crossing my fingers that it doesn't get larger.

Edited to add: this thyroid cyst is 4mm x 2mm.

Sherry, it's good that you'll get it re-checked in 3 months.

Just a word of advice on thyroid tests that "fall within normal range", you doc should also be looking at your symptoms as a way to decide that. Symptoms are what dictates the level of thyroid meds or at least contribute to.

For the past few months I've been feeling way off re my thyroid, had it checked out and they told me all the tests fall within normal range, but i was still having major symptoms. So i insisted they up my Armour thyroid for a month so I could see if it made any difference. It's been 2 weeks now on upped dosage, and i'm starting to feel better. (Btw, I also have had several sizeable nodules on my thyroid which have remained at the same size for 2nd year now).

Bottom line here is IMO, if you're still having symptoms, even if your levels are "normal", you may want to suggest to your doc about adjusting the dosage to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks, Sherry, will do. Oral surgeon is big on CAT-scanning; that's my main concern at this point. Dentist didn't want to forecast possible procedures, but did say there's a way of unclogging the gland by passing a needle thru. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Yep, Sherry, it is annoying-- you got right to the heart of it. RE how they came to consider a clog: 1st the hygienist looked under my tongue (does this at every exam as part of routine) then palpated beneath lower jaw & asked if I ever have pain there. I have had pain there after using Patanol drops for eye allergy 3 or more consecutive days so I stopped using it. (Gastro said it was probably dehydrating, which tends to be the case with allergy-control meds.) So it had nothing to do with looking at the teeth alone, but followed hygienist's additional scrutiny of gums & mucosa-- which I've been getting at all hygiene visits for 10-12 yrs now. They ask you to stick out tongue, then they grab it with a piece of sterile gauze to hold it out of the way while they examine the mucosa below. RE what happens from here: ever since dentist detected jawbone loss (post-Prednisone use) I've been getting oral hygiene 3 times/yr. So we'll stay with that.
