I was just in the hospital over the weekend due to a cat scan showing a possible pulmonary embolism. They gave me Lovenox injections in my stomach every 12 hours. I have a temp loop ileostomy while my surgery heals in my colon. I've been passing clear mucus (normal) through my rectum but today when I got home and used the bathroom, I see bright red blood. I know they told me lovenox has a risk of bleeding, is it possible it could cause bleeding in my colon? I was bleeding bad before my remicade infusion 3 weeks ago and remicade stopped that in a day. I was fine passing mucus in the hospital today and over the weekend while on Lovenox. Is it possible the bleeding is caused by that?

Holy crap....this has been a hell experience for you...

I would say that it could very well have exacerbated the fragility toward bleeding.

How much bleeding?

Nothing on the route out from the ostomy?

You're still on the steroid enemas?

the odd thing is, the mucus didn't appear bloody, it still looked clear but when I wiped, there was bright red blood on the wipes that I use...even little thick pieces of blood. This morning I went to the bathroom and saw no blood but I feel a bad sharp (almost like a paper cut pain) when I pass the mucus.

Ugh, don't have advice but to send hugs and good thoughts. You have really been through the ringer. Hope things start looking up asap!!

well I found the culprit. I sat in a hot bath tonight as the throbbing was a bit bad and I felt around my rectum because it seemed like I had a cut by the pain. Well, what did I find lodged there but a couple knots of the suture from my surgery. It felt like it was made of hard nylon and had some sharp points. It must of cut me on the way out Sunday causing the blood I saw on the toilet paper. That explains why my mucus is still clear. I haven't seen any more blood, just the pain. I'll call my surgeon tomorrow to see if all is ok.

I called my surgeons office yesterday to ask about the suture, the person on the phone was saying they would of used staples and not sutures so I'm bringing in that little suture and showing the surgeon next week when I see him. Off to get my gastrografin enema xray...yay

Considering how you explained it...the "end" result makes total sense.

So, no sutures?...seems something is amiss there, lol.

Hope the g-enema x-ray will reveal something as to its origin (and that all is great in there).

got the xray, it was just to check for leaks. The radiologist said all looked good to him. I'll see my surgeon next week to get into more detail and hopefully leaving with a reversal appointment.

I was on Lovenox as well, (fun stuff) but not until the bleeding had stopped. It's a real catch-22 for me going forward. I have a huge risk of DVT's but they can't give me blood thinning meds while flaring and flares are when the DVT's happen. I am seeing a hematologist to discuss solutions. Hope you are doing better.

I'm still having some sort of pain on the right side of my back but neither of the two CT scans showed anything so I have no clue what it could be. They also said there's no trace of fluid on the right side either. I'm scratching my head on that one.
