Hi :) I was diagnosed with UC about
a month ago. No pain or nausea, just a frequent urge to go, LOTS of blood, and lots of diarrhea. I was against the typical medicine so I started the SCD diet 4 weeks ago and started taking fish oil, probiotics, L-Glutimine, Turmeric, aloe vera gel, etc. Now, I am only going 1-2 times a day and the stool is formed with only a small amount of blood and mucus. However, when I pee, little musuc pebbles slip out (gross, I know)... they are clearish-yellow with a tint of pink (blood). Does this mean I'm getting better? I know it's a slow process but geesh..... thank you for any advice :)

No, the doctor recommended Uceris, which I am taking, and steroids, which I did not want to take. Taking alot of natural anti-inflammatories which will do the same thing as synthetic steroids

Uceris is a topical steroid which is typically taken for an 8 week course. You will need a maintenance medication as once you stop the Uceris, your symptoms will return. Ideally, that is a combination of both an oral meslamine-based drug (e.g., Asacol HD, Lialda, Apriso, etc.) and a some sort of rectal medication either a suppository (e.g., canasa) or an enema (such as Rowasa). Suppositories are better for disease limited to the rectum. Enemas go further into the Sigmoid colon.
This is a chronic, lifelong disease. It never goes away, no matter how good you feel. Noncompliance with medication is the biggest reason this disease relapses, and it gets much harder to treat after a relapse, then if you just stick with your drs assigned medicine regiment.
Yes, it sounds like you are healing and getting better. Give it time, some of us take longer to heal than others.

Thank you. Have you ever tried Uceris? Everything I have read says it doesnt work so I was hoping it was all the other things I'm doing that are working. I have heard of wonderful sucess stories and life-long remission proven with the SCD diet and supplements. Not every bout of colitis (ie inflammation) is chronic I've been told. Hopefully once I get rid of this it will be gone for good :) If not, I will see about
getting on a maintenance medication.

LBrown, the first thing you should know about
uc is this: everybody responds differently to treatment. That includes the various uc medications, diets, and supplements. While it is true some are medication free and thank SCD and supplements, there is no guarantee it will work that way for you.
No, I haven't tried Uceris myself. I hear it works well for some but not for others (see above everybody responds differently).
Whatever you find works for you, stick with it.

Thank you :) atleast I know I'm getting better. I was thinking of stopping the uceris now and seeing what happens, instead of staying on it, and everything else, for 4 more weeks. What do you think?

UC is a chronic lifelong disease with periods of flares and periods of remissions. Regular Colitis is not UC and is not usually chronic. There is a huge difference between the two. If you have UC your condition is chronic, requiring continuous treatment of some sort, forever. I don't want this to sound mean but you seem to do a lot of selective reading. Uceris does work in some people so it is not true that everything says it does not work. The SCD diet does work in some select individuals. "Wonderful success stories and life-long remission proven with the SCD diet and supplements" only happens to some. There are approximately 500,000 cases of UC in the US and there may be a couple of hundred success stories about
SCD and UC, leaving approximately 499,000 cases where the SCD diet will probably not work. Uceris is only prescribed for 8 weeks. Why don't you do it for the whole 8 weeks and then go off and then see how you do without it?

The doctor said the biopsy results couldn't determine if it was IBD colitis vs. non-IBD colitis. So I'm not sure if it's ulcerative or not? It started after a dose of antibiotics. I do know I did not experience most of the symptoms many IBD sufferers do. No pain. No nausea. Only a brief period of frequency. I was lucky. I'll likely finish the Uceris and see how I do. I don't think I'm a selective reader, but I take from what the majority days and what makes sense to me. Your body was meant to repair itself when given the chance, and fuel it needs ;)

I was just going by the fact you said you were diagnosed with UC. UC is IBD colitis, not non-IBD colitis. If you have regular colitis diet has a better chance of being effective and less chance if you have UC.

Sorry. The doctor told me I had UC but when I asked more questions and reviewed my records it said it was inconclusive. Then when I looked up symptoms of each I fit more with non-IBD? If you don't have pain, nausea, fatigue, Etc could it mean it's just regular colitis? I would be so happy if so!

Unfortunately my answer to that is no. I was diagnosed with definite UC and I have never had any pain, nausea or many of the other symptoms of UC. I did have blood from the UC ulcers in the very beginning but it went away after taking the 5ASA meds as did my diarrhea. My normal symptoms are frequency and occasional urgency and usually always have formed stools with no blood. I have been doing much better recently, mostly due to my first round of pred and Canasa. Non IBD colitis usually also needs treatment of some sort (usually certain antibiotics) to get over it but it is often not a chronic disease like UC is. Non IBD colitis is usually bacterial in nature whereas UC is an autoimmune disease. While diet can improve UC it usually will not put it into remission as gastro problems with UC are not the cause of the UC but the result of having UC. Diets would probably be much more effective with non IBD colitis.
