Lialda question

So saw doc on urgent basis. Flaring. He switched me from 6 Asacol 400 mg. a day (yes I still have a truckload) to Lialda 1.2 4 a day (two and two). Said it reaches lower than Asacol? Is this true? Am I on a heavy dose?

Said I'm not pred (aka suicide) or 6 mp material. Yet. Giving me a month to shape up or he'll order a colonoscopy for which I have to pay a portion (double indignity). Do not want one so I am motivated. Everything else is in my sig.

He's a big fan of gluten free, but says it's so expensive and inconvenient that he can't really urge patients to get on it. I told him I've been doing it for 2 years and don't think it's made a big difference.
He's happy I'm in his NIH study at Rush University on Stress and UC and promises FREE flex sigs. Yippee.
He's a huge fan of rectal meds, and wishes patients were more compliant. They find it gross, he says.

Pancolitis since 8/09. Remission since 4/10, rectal flares triggered by anxiety and insomnia, have IBS, Lialda 1.2 mg 4 twic a day.; Rowasa enemas, nightly, Canasa daily, calcium. No gluten, nuts, alcohol or processed foods. Limit corn, peanuts, eggs, dairy, sugar. Organic goat whey protein, green/fruit smoothies. Coffee (my vice). Bipolar/anxiety/depression/OCD: lamictal 100 mg restoril, diopene and melatonin sleeping

He didn't add any more rectals?

I am on Lialda but can't comment since I have never taken Asacol. I still struggle w. Proctitis however.

Thinking maybe a change in rectals....like steroid sups or steroid foam/enemas.

Glad to hear it! Another option is to do the Rowasa morn and night. I know inconvenient, but yet another combo to try. Keep us posted on how the Lialda works out for you!

right...I mistyped. The point is to not put mg, but to replace it with g...and to state 2 x 2 daily
