My son has a horrible stomach bug

I knew this would happen sooner or later, my almost 7year old came home with a stomach bug. I don't always get them when my kids do , but I currently have the cold my 4 year old brought home last week so my immune system is pretty busy at the moment.

I am wondering how stomach bugs impact folks with UC as this is the first time one has been in my house since I developed UC. I need to update my sig, I am taking WOO, 3 Lialda a day and probiotics.

We've had a few different bugs in the house. One was a vomiting one that my daughter did share with me. I got sick many times in a 12 hour period and then just felt worn out for a day...go figure. Had no impact on my UC. She has also shared an intestinal bug and I was in the bathroom a lot for two days but was then fine. She has been sick many other times and luckily hasn't shared. I usually just up my meds when I am not feeling well especially the probiotic. I've never flared from anything she has shared.

My two kids came home with stomach bugs a few times in my UC days but I don't remember ever coming down with it. Or if I did it would have been hard for me to determine my flare from the bug. (I was in a constant flare for 5 years).

Do lots of hand washing and try to get someone else to tend to your sick son if possible. With a little luck it will pass you by. If you do get it you will have to be super careful about getting dehydrated.

My hands are so dry from constant washing! I also went around the house and cleaned every doorknob and the bathrooms just to be safe. My husband has done most if the night time care including the laundry, so I can sleep but we traded at 5:30 this morning. This is a vomiting thing so hopefully even if I do get it it would not mess with my UC. I mainly had to rub his head while he had dry heaves. Poor little guy. At least he has no more fever. I hope his younger brother doesn't get this, because there is no way he will let my husband take care of him. He is a total mama's boy.

Poor little guy.....hope this isn't something that lingers too long.

Good on the handwashing and laundry...It's also good to not share a common hand towel. Paper towels are always a good thing, especially when kids tend to bring such goodies home for sharing.

One huge thing...once the symptoms are gone, it many times lingers in the gastro tract and can still be passed on. So, my suggestion is for probiotics given at bedtime on a fairly empty stomach for a few weeks.

Actually, probiotics for them always would be a good thing....even the pearls that are easy to swallow and don't need refrigeration.

Keep us posted as to how he's doing.

I need to get back on the daily probiotics for them, we have skipped the past two days since he has been sick. I may even double their doses for the next week or so!
He is doing much better now, he is arguing with his brother which is usually a good sign. He hasn't had anything to eat since last night and is now begging for all kinds of not healthy foods.

That's definitely a good sign....and it's even better if mom makes him something special too!

Yeah, the probiotics are always a good thing...

Seems you'll have a better weekend (unless another gets it....noooooooooo! ;-)

My little guy has an iron stomach, fingers crossed! I think he has thrown up 3 times in his 4 years of life.

Interestingly, I remember every time I've ever thrown up, even as a kid. Baaaad experiences, ugh.
I also remember the one and only ear infection.
So memorable...lol.

Still give your little one probiotics regardless.

I also remember pretty much every stomach bug I have had.

They both got two probiotics yesterday and will get two more each before bed tonight. So far so good today, fingers crossed no one else gets it. This was two days of torture for him. The rest of us just have colds.
