And this - Is actually why I am nervous or don't like the idea of the whole GMO thing now that I have learned a little more about it all. They don't know enough about it or can't prove it's safe and have always overlooked the effect on bacteria as they have been studying the effects on mice etc.. not bacteria.

That was an interesting article. I am infatuated with the Japanese because of their long lifespan and low cardiovascular disease rates. Their women seem to go into menopause far later than their American counterparts. Conditions like osteoperosis, hypothyroidism that are common in America are virtually non-existent there as well.

IBD prevalence seems to only increase in countries when traditional diets are abandoned in favor of modern ones. The Japanese, in general, have a low incidence of IBD because of all the protective factors in their diet - omega-3s, eggs, resistant starches, fermented marine foods, etc. Unfortunately, globalization is besetting tradition and auto-immune diseases are on the rise world-wide.
