Hi all ive just recently been diagnosed with colitis in november this year Ive had problems for many years on n off.
the drs finally decided to investigate after I collapsed and fainted in pain twice in matter minutes.
Ive had camera investigation hence the confirmation.
Reason I cant get my head round is I have all the symptoms bar
The needing toilet in hurry. Im opposite when I do need to go I
Can be sat there for up to half hour as it takes ages to come out n then its
Mainly mucusy (sorry for too much info). I spent a week in hospital
Few months ago on a water diet as was on morphine and few other
Meds(this was when I collapsed). .I have hospital appointment to
See consultant I presume to talk about treatment/diet and meds if needed.all I know
about the condition is what ive googled. So any ideas or tips on how to manage
Would be great help. im having another flare up as I started getting tummy cramps on Friday
And still gettin them tonight I've been havin not changed my diet habits or anything bar had
Something to eat on friday I rarely have. cry confused

someone has to ask, so I might as well - what EXACTLY were you dx'd with ? do you know ? was it ulcerative colitis (uc) or some other colitis  ?

are you on any meds now ?

when do you see the doc next ?

and finally, who's gonna be in the super bowl facing the seahawks ?

I wouldn't get too crazy worrying about what to do until you consult with a GI. It is possible you have a bacteria or something else causing inflammation and these symptoms. Did you have a scope with biopsies? It sounds like you used a pill camera, which I would imagine can be pretty accurate, but it doesn't provide biopsies which are used to reveal the pathology that indicates exactly what is going on. Your symptoms sound like a UC flare up but you really don't know without doing the proper tests to eliminate the possibility of it being something else. I think in my case, the best way to improve the symptoms is to eat very light, simple foods and to try to get a lot of rest. Don't get into stressful situations if you can help it and stay where you know where the bathroom are - not knowing always stresses me and makes me have to go. Mesalamine helps a lot of us get into remission. We use it orally and rectally in suppositories/enemas. Definitely request these items and a stool check.

The dr which rang never said which type just u havent got cancer so thats good news byt u have a inflamitry bowel desease called colitis and that was it. I have checked the stools since the bleeding started in july this year
the was more mucus than number 2. So I had a
Flexi camera (forgot name) they took 3 biopsys as my colon was very
Inflamed on examination it looked like lots tiny mouth ulcers on the screen.
They gave me an enima 1hour begore to clear me out but according to
The dr I still had alot more in there so he couldnt get the camera To far.
Whilst watchin the screen ubcould see a gas bubble chasing the camera rod.
Ive not been given any meds as of yet as it was claming down ie stomach
Cramps n bleeding/mucus was stopping (less on tissue and in pan).im tryin toget info so can get head roynd in for when I see consultant In January

You never have to apologize for TMI on this forum. I would say, sometimes more details are necessary for better information.

As a newbie to the forum, I think it's important for you to know that you have options, which your doc probably won't tell you about. So let me share with you what's worked for me in the hopes it might help you too.

Some meds work for some and not for others.

For me, the traditional meds failed me and the mesalamines I became intolerant of.
And when the doc gave me a choice of surgery or remicade, I balked and had to find my own way.

He also told me diet has nothing to do with UC, but I found that it has a great deal to do with exacerbating its symptoms!

I found that by doing these things it helped control my symptoms by 75%:
1) adequate high intake of vitamin d3 ( need to get your levels checked first)
2) probiotics are key, are you on any?
3) slippery elm powder to coate the intestinal tract helped greatly
4) l-glutamine amino acid powder for long term colonic repair
5) curcumin is an important anti-inflammatory
6) astaxanthin and omega 3's are also important
7) food combining
8) diet modification as in gluten and dairy free, Paleo diet
9) rectal meds help lots of folks out

Despite the decrease in symptoms, I was still BLEEDING very heavily at every BM. The Last 25% was taken care of by LDN, low dose naltrexone, which put me in remission. Within a week of starting LDN, the heavy bleeding ( too many times to count with blood clots and mucuous) which I had had for 1 1/2 years straight, went down to ZERO. And that is all thanks to LDN!

If any of this interests you, there are things IMO that you can control, which will have a direct impact on your disease, the symptoms you experience and their severity.

IMO, it isn't one size fits all, and you have to find what works for you, and it may be a combination of things like diet, meds, supplements, etc...

I was able to control my UC into remission through various supplements, probiotics, diet modification, and LDN , low dose naltrexone.

Hey I was in a very similar situation to you, when I was diagnosed I was told over the phone you have Ibd. He never really told me what it was and just said it was chronic...it scared me I didn't even know what that meant. So I googled it thinking it meant life threatening or shortening. Lol...it's funny coz chronic just means something you have to deal with for the rest of your life. ...think of it like diabetes...it's def manageable. :)
I found this website and the ppl on the uc chat rooms very helpful you can ask specifically about your symptoms and for their experiences and they answer you. :) very supportive!

All I did was a food diary ..I wrote down everything I ate and drAnk and how my bms (bowel movements) were. How I felt, pain, blood. Straining, etc. I did this for 3 months and I took gluten out of my diet, the only reason I chose wheat was it seemed a lot if ppl find it causes flares and it's easy to cater for once you understand it. ...even eating out. Within a week of knowing what I'm eating, and removing gluten from my diet....No medications!!! At all!!! My uv cleared itself up. No pain, no pressure, no bleeding, no straining!

I went to my gi (specialist dr) a fewweeks later and he spwas suprised by my knowledge...remember everyone's body is different and you have to find what works for you. I was just lucky that gluten was the first thing I tried and it worked... However I have had some hormonal changes lately which have put me into a flare again. I don't know what caused it but I think it was linked to the hormones ...I'm still trying to figure out what to do because I'm a healthy person I don't want to take any medications, I figure even though it's not proven, if I'm having trouble with what's coming out of my body and digesting the things inside it, how can it not have anything to do with what I'm pitting into my body?! I suggest a food diary and write in it every day,,,bms included and symptoms, feelings etc and anything that changes go back and see what caused it. Also look up your diagnosis and see what is the most common natural remedies or treatments. Unfortunately uc can not be cured, but it can be managed! I still live a full, active, life there's no reason why this has to stop you from doing anything! Just because someone said you can't do something anymore doesn't mean you can't! Surround your self with positive supportive ppl and. Stay positive! Xxx
