Thank you to all for answering so quickly, He was on enemas which his GI took him off of and has been on 6mp for about 5 months now. I had to transition him from a pediatric GI to an adult one and once I did he was great for a while. The new GI told me that he was on too much meds and he need to start to come off of them. He began with the enemas, then, slowly started the weaning of pred from 40 to 20 for 2 weeks to 15 for 2 weeks then when he was on 10 he said that the taper needs to be slower so he was on 10 for 3 weeks when the flare started again. He also began with a new symptom of not wanting to eat which really freaked me out. I know that usually people with UC loose a lot of weight but my son is the opposite he is 6'3 and at his highest was at 315lbs. There has been only one other time that he had a bad flare which caused him to lose 15 lbs in a week. When I tell the doc about the fact he has no appetite he says that it's ok he needs to lose weight anyway. Go figure!!!

OK, the new GI sounds like a bad choice right away because he pulled the enemas. They are the most effective, least side effect choice for treating UC. He's an idiot for taking them out of the plan. And then your GI says it's ok for him to lose weight? I would run, FAST, from this guy and get him back into the pediatric practice. He is 14 and in the beginning of his major growth years. An adult GI is inappropriate in my opinion.

I agree w/ Kazbern.  The enemas are one of the most effective/safest/least side effect treatment and treats the area directly.  If he can retain them, he should use them.  They can be used safely long term.  I would dump this GI and find someone else. 

I am so sorry that you and your son have to deal w/ this.  This disease is the pits.

Ah, I see that he's 18 from your other thread. I still think your current GI is unacceptable. I would also consider staying with a pediatric GI if your son has not completed his growth spurt. Has he stayed on the right growth curve for height? Has he finished going through puberty? If the answer to both is yes then an adult GI is probably ok. Otherwise I think you need to stay with a pediatric DR who is going to stay focused on his growth.
