Well, I was literally "left open" in the ICU. The cut me open and didn't stitch me back together at all, just covered it with a bandage. :). I had soo much swelling in my belly that they couldn't close me. Plus they were planning to go back in. Fortunately I was kept sedated (and intubated) and I don't remember three weeks anyway. When they were done they only stitched the skin together as I was still too swollen. When the put my ostomy back in, that spot in my skin will also be "left open" to heal from the inside out.
You ID'd my attitude! I didn't ask for this but I'm not going to roll over.
As for my diet, I am allowed to eat, but what I eat is limited. I can eat all the bad stuff I want, haha. At least that's what it seems like. My loop ostomy is half way down my small intestine. That means my output is all liquid. If I eat too much fiber (fruits/veggies) my output increases and I dehydrate. If I drink water, I'm more likely to dehydrate. It seems the body will suck water into your digestive tract to help things pass through. I was literally told that if I drink water, twice as much will come out. I'm suppose to drink Gatorade with salt/ pedialyte but I hate the taste! Reminds me of prep. So basically I can eat all the carbs/meat I want. I can have the occasional fruit or vegetable, like toppings on a sandwich or something. Definitely not the "5-9" you are supposed to have. I also can't have alot of sugar as it pulls in water too. I'm basically interested in juicing for after my next surgery. I'm not positive, but it seems if I drink liquid juice, then it will come out pretty fast and liquidy too.
