My doctor just called me back. Apparently I'm in horrible pain because I now have C. Difficile on top of it all and get a nice round of flagyl.

No more pain meds, just OTC Tylenol. As scared as I was of being on pain meds I'm scared of being without them. I literally lay on the floor crying when they wear ogg it hurts so bad.

I feel like going to the docs has just made me worse and worse!

I was confused enough already now I get another DX to the mix....

So....how long before flagyl makes the pain decrease?

I highly recommend doubling up on heavy duty probiotics like VSL#3 as well as the yeast Saccharomyces Boulardii.

I wish you the best in conquering C. Diff as it is not a pleasant experience.

They did a stool sample last week....after the first colonoscopy but before the second. The sample before my first colonoscopy showed nothing....but they had given me 5 days of cipro and flagyl at that poi t from the ER just in case and I was too stupid and miserable to question that.

So I'm now taking lialdia, 20mg prednisone, and 3 350mg flagyl a day.

Stealth, going to try and find the flora star today. I looked at the vsl3, but missed so much work I literally can't afford it right now. Ugg.

I wish doctors were as honest as people on here. Instead of oh, give it a few days they should be saying hey, expect to miserable until maybe spring, if you're lucky lol.

Be prepared-the flagyl may make you feel worse before it makes you better sad Some people (me!) have terrible side effects to it. It sure does a good job of killing things off though!

She was put on an initial course of antibiotics that caused c. diff, and now she has to take more antibiotics to eradicate it. Doctor slamming is completely appropriate given what transpired. This was 100% preventable and now she has to deal with an unnecessary complication due to someone else's medical negligence.

Quincy- you are right....I keep thinking I'll stop then catch it again. I just feel like I get conflicting information. I think I have a history too...grew up military, had doctors who basically waited for us to diagnose ourselves and then said OK, that's what you have. Now my mom is very sick too, and her doctors do nothing but send her home to wait for appointments that are months away, while she has whittled down to skin and bones and in constant pain.

I called myself on the bashing yesterday and here I am today doing it again. Thanks for calling me on it. Maybe I need to add a therapist to my list lol. Get some xanax going.

I embarrasingly apologize for the tantruming and exit stage left....

Flagyl can help quickly but if not your doctor should bump you up to vancomycin -- vanco works better but is very expensive so typically you need to "fail" Flagyl first.

You can easily catch C. diff in a hospital without being on antibiotics at all, I wouldn't be so quick to blame the ab's you were prescribed in the ER.

I don't agree with doctor bashing on a constant basis but sometimes they deserve it. Stealth has a point. Something just doesn't seem right with the story. You have a stool test which shows no sign of C-Diff, have a colonoscopy, they put you on Cipro and Flagyl (Flagyl can actually fight c-diff) for apparently no reason, then wala - all of a sudden you are diagnosed with C-Diff. Seems kind of odd. I can't help but think that somehow during the colonoscopy procedure you contracted the C-Diff infection, although your first C-Diff test could have returned a false negative. That's fairly easy to happen.

ahh i've had to do three rounds of antibiotics for c diff. it was pure hell so i totally know how you're feeling. it was probably worse than UC flares for me since i couldn't take pain meds for this. i also developed paralytic ileus so was not allowed to eat/drink anything in the hospital.

flagyl gave me a ton of runs (25x a day) and kind of made me miserable so i switched to vancomycin the two other times and it worked the last time. i've been testing negative since then but i was on it about 1.5 months. the short 10 and 14 day courses didn't help me at all.

probiotics didn't do jack for my situation as i had been taking them for years before this experience and during my entire 6 month c diff ordeal. now, i mainly stick to fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, and veggies/fruits since it's cheaper.

When I got c-diff this summer I was put on Flagyl and vancomycin. That is a horrible infection.

C.diff infection sometimes is very hard to keep in check.
Just sharing our experience -
Fecal transplant is the best effective treatment for C.diff. Hospitals will do this only if the infection is recurrent.
After the antibiotic course is perfect for Fecal transplant. This treatment can help your UC too.
If interested do a search in this forum.
We did home fecal transplant for our daughter when she got C.diff and after 5 transplants her poop got perfect like Pre-UC days. We did this as a precaution against recurrent c.diff.
So far so good....

If you can get this done, I would recommend it. It's the only known treatment for C. diff that has an 100% success rate.

The first time I got C.diff I got it in a hospital and did not take any antibiotics prior to getting c.diff.

I've had c.diff twice; we (IBD'ers) are just more likely to get c.diff. When you start flaring you should always get a stool sample to rule out c.diff or other infections in your colon.
