mesalamine enemas....or prednisone???

Hi all,
This is my first flare up after being in remission for 1 year with only 8 salofalk pills per day.
I've been using cortifoam once every morning, plus a 4g salofalk/mesalamine enema every night.
I've seen drastic improvements in the first week, but my symptoms have kind of plateaued...
It's been almost 3 weeks.... i'm down to 1 BM per day (every morning) no blood, but it's not very formed.
my stomach gurgles a lot that's how i know its not solid inside.....
I'm getting impatient... should i keep going or try prednisone?

I'd do just about anything to avoid pred but that's just becuase I had a tough course a few years ago. If you're not in terrible shape, it is possible you could pull through with mesalamine enemas. In my opinion, that's preferable to a course of pred but I might be biased.

i've never used prednisone before. i'm only 21 and i'm scared i'll run out of options if i start prednisone too soon. I've read some of other peoples' symptoms, and it seems like their flares are a little worse than my condition right now. Salofalk enemas have stopped the bleeding, but i'm not in 100% remission yet, and it's been almost 3 weeks on them. Pretty much 1 Bm per day (unless i have wet farts)... haha.

I'm in the same boat- cortifoam + enema. I'm sporadic with the oral salofalk as I'm UP limited to rectum. I've plateaued as well after a few weeks- is this typical? Will the symptoms eventually taper off?

I personally wouldnt go nuts to change things if you're only having one BM a day. It doesn't get too much better than that. have you considered doing rectal meds 2x daily? Sometimes I do a suppository in the morning and that helps to get things under control. Although I had bad luck with pred, I don't want to give you the idea everyone does. Some people get on and off without a problem and they stay in remission for long periods of time.
