Are you having a three step surgery? The rectum isn't removed until step 2 if there are three steps. It's much harder to remove the rectum because it's in the pelvis (harder to access) instead of the abdomen. It is totally normal to have continuing inflammation in the rectum between steps. You will probably pass some mucus, possibly even bloody mucus, from your bottom. Usually removing the colon makes the rectal flare less severe but there are no guarantees (I had pretty severe inflammation in the rectum between surgeries, so I ran fevers, passed bloody mucus a few times per day, etc). You can try Canasa or just leave it alone, either way it's worth a chat with your surgeon.
