I'll just make it's own thread so not to hijack the study one. Anyone tried it? Thoughts? If they are mixing 1G NAC into a 4G mesalamine enema how hard is it to do that yourself......

Burns...... doing past few days. Need to change up my mix I guess. Don't like using the fleet bottles. May try using some of the hydrocort bottles. Did notice decrease in blood after 1 use though following morning.
Using 1200 mg NAC in 60 ml (half water/half aloe.)

Are there any advantages to administering it rectally? I've had good results with the capsules - swansons brand.

If the pharm company is spending money on research adding it to mesalamine enemas there must be something to it. Seems instead of participating in a study why not just add it yourself.

There is an evidence that NAC, if taken 3X a day oral (600mg x 3X), it helps with UC symptoms. They are just trying kitchen door route to see if it is local or systemic action.
If you ask me, I would prefer a systemic action over local action, because NAC is a precursor for glutathione, body's own antioxidant. Whatever the role it plays in UC stuff, I would prefer to have it systemic, so that whatever excess glutathione is left in the system, will be used to control other oxidative species in the body and hence it will even lower chances of oxidative effect.
Your burning feeling might as well come from Aloe gel. Unless you extract it yourself, you have no idea whats in there. I would not shoot such thing up my rear end.
That said, I have been taking Doctor's Best NAC for last 3 to 4 months, if not 3X daily, at least 2X daily.

Well if the label is true it is 100% organic aloe. Can only go by what it says and that's reason I purchased it instead of the other stuff that had different ingredients in it. I added more of the aloe yesterday and noticed no burning. Was just matter of tinkering with the levels. Switched to a hydrocort bottle and was much easier to get in.
Conventional thought doesn't work to well with this disease so I am always up to try something different. I'll give it a few weeks.
