Tons of blood but I ain'yt going back on prednisone

Ok so my symptoms have really took a turn for the worse since I left the hospital for blood clots. Frequency is up and blood is way up some bright some darker. Now is it because I have been prednisone free for about a week or is it the blood thinner? I don't know but after being on prednisone for around 11 months I do not want to go back on it. What can I do? The canasa suppositories help but not enough. Thinking of trying mesalamine enemas at night since I have like 40 of them I have not used. Never helped in the past but based on the canasa working some might be worth a shot

Yes, do the enemas at night and the Canasa in the morning. You might want to pull back on food for a few days and just do nutritious broths and other very simple, low residue foods to get some bowel rest. I'm sure the blood thinners are making whatever bleeding you have look much worse. Are you supposed to follow up for a CBC? Anyone tracking your platelets and hemoglobin?

Being that it is the holidays I could not see my regular DR until the 31st. So kinda in limbo until I get with him. Doctors in the hospital are really not all that informative. I'm on xeralto as a thinner though and it does not require watching like warfarin does. No food interactions with it either

scum, what meds are you on now?

as soon as i got to 1 mg of prednisone, i flared and was in the hospital a week later. i'm still trying to reduce again but im going super slow- 1 mg per week since i got to 20 mg.

Have you tried the hydrocort enemas? You could use that at night and canasa by day.

I don't blame you for noy wanting to get back in that mouse wheel! I just do not understand a drug like that! The side affects are way worse than the illness! Isn't there something called uceris or something like pred that doesn't have all the bad affects? Good luck

Being on prednisone for that long is bad news yikes. What about trying a biologic?

I had some hydrocort suppositories. See if I still do.

powdered wheat grass is shown to stop the blood and builds iron.

That's not super surprising, since the blood thinner is so new. That really stinks! I hope the doctors can get all of the dosages figured out so you don't get more clots or bleed too much.

You could take a quick hit of steroids for a week to help level things out. They have them pre packaged at the pharmacy in five and ten day courses.

That might be an option but I've only been off pred for a week and it took so long to get off.

Pink1 I am on thinners due to blood clots in leg and lungs. Most likely brought on by having UC. Spent Christmas eve and day in hospital with the clots

so you're on humira and methotrexate but they aren't working at all??

i'd try something else then. no use in staying on them if prednisone is doing all the work. what about simponi?

Methotrexate takes a long time to work. GI thinks it is the blood thinner causing increased bleeding. Taking immodium daily until I can see her on Friday. Only had a smoothie today to eat and took the immodium. so far doing better. bathroom trips are way down
