Good read. I got UC while in the hospital with Mono. For the first year I was convinced that this is what caused my UC. At the time I was in the hospital they did not know what was wrong with me so they gave be broad spectrum antibiotics and I now believe that is what gave me the UC, although Mono is still a possibility.

Haven't read the article so my comments may be off the mark, but I would say that the majority of all adults in North America at least have been exposed to EBV. I had mono when I was 16. One of my daughters had it when she was 7. It certainly sucks when you get mono as an older person. When I was 16 I was sick for about 2 months; two weeks of that was pretty serious fatigue and throat pain. My 7 year old was sick for one week.

I think about 90% of adults have EBV in their system.

Kazbern, prob should read the article. ;). It says that and it talks about why catching it later in life can set off the auto immune cascade.

Very interesting. Makes me wish I forced EBV on my other daughter when the one was sick!

I got a couple of childhood viruses in adulthood - pitoriasis rosea when I was in my 20s and parvovirus (Fifth Disease) at age 42. My IBD diagnosis was at age 38, but I never had joint pain associated with my IBD until after the parvo. That stupid virus gave me terrible joint pain, and I often blame it for triggering the horrible years of enthesitis that came along with my bowel problems.

Its why we give kids immunizations when they are young.. to exploit the immune system.

I think my joint pain is the yeast or myco and it was more draining on me then anything but a full on 15x a day flare.

ive heard 5ths later in life is rough. sorry it left you with so much pain :(
