I posted a little while ago asking how I should ask my dr. For amitriptyline. I want to try it for my anxiety/ibs/gut pains. I talked to her about it today and she agreed it might have some benefit for me. I'm starting on 10mg tonight, and am on 10mg for four days and then I am to increase it to 20mg. I hope it helps! My dr. Says if nothing else it should help me get a decent sleep.

Hello!

My GI prescribed me this about a week ago for the similar issues (abdominal and rectal discomfort, despite having no bleeding or high frequency). From what I've read, it's a good idea to try for IBS/psycho-somatic/residual nerve damage type pain.

Unfortunately, I haven't experienced any benefit yet, but I'll stay with it for a while. I'm on 20mg btw.

Hey Chicago bulls, that's cool that we're both tryin in out at the same time. Keep me posted and I will do the same too. Do you also have ibs? From what I read its shown more help on ibs than ibd. My nerves/anxiety about poopin definitely makes things worse...so I'm hopeful this helps.

Yo yo. Sounds good.

Umm I can't say whether I have IBS or not. I have a history of anxiety manifesting itself as pain in different areas of my body (headaches, shoulder pain etc.). I'm not sure whether my stomach/rectal discomfort is IBS or IBD related. I'm not sure if there's a way to prove this besides a colonoscopy?

It's worth a try....it might help with muscle-related pain as well.

If the 20mg has you feeling out of it, 10mg might still be a good dosage for you....after a fair try, however.

Let us know how you're doing on it for the next week.

I will be keeping you all posted as I try out my amitriptyline. Last night I took my first dose, 10mg, about an hour before bed. I didn't feel nearly as groggy as I thought I would. I slept pretty well through the night, which was a pleasant surprise! I woke up this morning just fine, no affects. I think they say it takes about 2 weeks to notice a difference in pains, 4-6 weeks for mood changes (my anxiety) but the sleep help is immediate. I will report back after I up my dose.
