Just got out of the hospital again!

Went in because of 103 temps all week and I stupidly took my Humira and Methotrexate. Got my GI upset. I did get 3 pints of blood and 2 iv bags of iron. My hemoglobin was 6. On the last day(today) I finally got them a stool sample. They said I had C diff but I did a stool test monday at the lab and it was negative? Could I have caught it at the hospital? They had me on clear liquids only for 2 days so don't know how they thought I was gonna give them a stool sample(I snuck in a sandwich last night). Talked about getting off of blood thinner and putting in a inferior vena cava filter but I was not down with that. My bleeding got worse when I got off of Pred not when I started blood thinners. Had CT scan of abdomen as well as ultrasound( I refused a colonoscoy at the hospital since I know my colon is a wreck). Lots of IV antibiotics and a script for Flagyl and I'm back home. Long weekend. CT scan showed only swelling on one side of colon. Hospital GI doc did not seem to think it looked too bad. Have a regular GI appt WED.

boy, have i been there, scum, and it's not easy. it really sucks. i'm sorry you're going through this.

yeah, you can DEFINITELY catch c diff at the hospital. i had been doing ok after my first two rounds of antibiotics for c diff and then i wound up in the hospital again. on the 3rd day i was in there, i was testing positive for c diff and so was my mom!

i'm curious what your doctor will say.

First of all sorry to hear you were in the hospital.

C. diff tests are famously inaccurate. It's possible you caught it at the hospital but it's also possible that the first test was a false negative.

The body still produces stool even when you're on clear liquids, and in fact a "sample" for C. diff is supposed to be liquid (many labs will throw out a formed stool sample instead of testing it for C. diff because it's universally accepted that if you CAN make formed stool, you don't have C. diff).

Well the stool sample they got was purple since all I had that day was the CT scan fruit punch drink lol. At least I got some color back from the blood. I was looking pretty pale.

I hope you feel better soon! So you can catch C diff just by breathing? IDK? I know that souds stupid. JW

Jeepers...yes, you could have picked it up from the hospital...or they tested it more indepth than the original stool sample? Regardless, hopefully this will get cleared up eventually.

miracles...no, you can't get it by breathing it in...hand to mouth on whatever vehicle.

Yikes....hope your will finally be on the mend.

My son was in the hospital in ICU a few ago and I went and visited him and kept thinking "oh god don't let either of us get C-diff from this place"!!!
