Severe rectal pain. I mean severe!

I've been slowly getting out of this 2 month flare since the intro of salofalk enemas. Bad side effect is unrelenting headaches. Since last night excruciating rectal pain with formed stools. This has happened before when I've been healing. Thought it was muscular in nature. This morning, been 4 times, all formed, although thin. I was practically screaming in pain. Sweating, moaning. I think it's burning. When I wiped there was tiny but hard pellets. It looked like my pentasa but was green. I've also been taking CC herbal for 2 weeks so I think it's the green color. Is it possible that the pentasa (un absorbed) is scrapping my rectum? I can't see it being anything I've eaten since it's mostly soup, spinach, chicken etc.

I'm so afraid of the next time I poop. The burning goes away after 5 min or so but my rectum "feels" different. I'm sitting on a heating pad, in tears because I feel so bad. Any suggestions on stopping the pain?

This sounds like a fissure to me, personally. Sitz bath (soak in a bath of warm water) will soothe and help heal. If it's really bad there are rx treatments you can get from your GI.

Is it rectum or anus? If anus is on fire, use Xylocaine 5% gel to numb it. In flare, my rear end is ALWAYS on fire and I can not live without Xylocaine.

Wait, if you are not seeing any blood how can it be a fissure?!
It's more likely to be a case of Proctalgia Fugax, look it up.

I think there was a guy here who used magnesium oil (hence why you may find relief in epsom salts although you don't have a fissure) a few times daily and that stopped the spasms for him.

So: Epsom salts+ magnesium oil (and/or oral Mag amino acid chelate).

You actually don't necessarily have blood from fissures....if you're fissures are small enough (even if there's lots of them)...when I had fissures I didn't have bleeding from them.

rbartolo, maybe ask your doc for Cortifoam rectal meds...for me it's the only rectals that work and may very well help with healing fissures if you have them.

this usually happens to me when I hav too much fibre in my diet. I'm not sure if its the same for you but maybe try cutting down on fibre? (if you have a high fibre diet)
but it might not be the fibre so don't get angry with me if its not. ;)

Hey Pb4, I've been meaning to contact you about my rectal issues. It seems you are a pro on this topic. I've been suffering from rectal pressure for the past two months and well, today I discovered a rectovaginal fistula. I am so sad and scared that I am going to keep growing these things. What upsets me is that my doctor ignored my rectal issues and refused to give me an enema/cortifoam. Is this the reason this happened to me? Have you had to deal with a fistula? Sorry for bombarding the thread. :(

Oh boy, that rectal pressure and pain is enough to make you want to die eh (that's how I felt with it) No, not being on rectal meds is not the reason you developed an RV, even on rectal meds they can develop.

I'm dealing with an RV right now, there's apparently 2 of them and one also has a branch off of it but not really connected to anything (better stay that way too!)

Biologics is apparently the only meds that can aid with fistulas, I hope your doc isn't denying you them? If you don't feel your doc is taking the best of care with your disease, please find a new one ASAP...fistulas are no joke and I know that many people can have them for years but they still need to be monitored even if biologics are not working to clear them up.

I totally get where you're coming from JajaBinks, the only thing that helped my pain was smoking a small amount of marijuana 2 times a day until I could finally get in to see my GI and thankfully it took care of the pain immediately and has kept it at bay...I know this isn't an option for everyone and it's unfortunate considering how miraculously it has helped with the severe and excruciating pain I was in and I totally get you on the sexlife issues as well (again the mj helped with that).

I also completely understand your fear of developing more, but try to concentrate on dealing with what you have now, we likely can't control getting more (with maybe the exception of being on biologics so long as they help heal them anyway).

I know you're freaked out, I still am too and today I've been having some uncomfortable issues "down there" and hoping it will not be a sign of turning into another type of nighmare like an abscess or something, trust me, I know your fear all to well, please find a doc that will help you and not dismiss your concerns.

Sorry it's not an option for you (it's a sad world we live in) I've had crohn's for 23 years this spring, no full remission ever (I'm more surprised it took this long to have fistula complications cuz it's pretty common for those with crohn's colitis like myself to have them, especially with the perianal crohn's skin tags, which is actually how my CD started).

As far as the ostomy goes, my GI just told me that if we can't get things (my severe rectal inflammation and fistulas) taken care of, an ostomy will be in my near future) that's his opinion though, no way will I live with an ostomy and I know that sounds stupid to a lot of people but I know myself and my emotional and mental issues and far as I'm concerned I'd rather be dead...just sayin'.

Thank you, I hope I find relief to and I hope you do as well, it can take some time to get set up on biologics (probably something you need with having a fistula) so I hope you can find a good doc ASAP.
