I had colitis for approx. 15yrs before they removed everything except my sm intestines...which is called a total collectomy, I now have a permanent ileostomy.... my question is, I have had this for 10yrs now and have had a few blockage surgery's,but now i feel just like it did when i had all my parts down there while flaring with colitis....I feel like i need to have a bowel movement down there and there is nothing there for this action....
Is it possible to get colitis in my sm intestines? I am way past the phantom pains, how long should this go on before i tell my doc? The anxiety down there feels like colitis so bad....i just don't have the parts down there anymore......?

Was your rectum removed as well? If you had UC I'm assuming it was. I know there are cases where the rectum is left and UC can still flare in the rectum. UC cannot effect the small intestines but Crohn's disease can.

I would post this is the ostomies forum if you haven't already. Not too many people here in this forum that had surgery. Best to you.

Small intestines can be affected if you have Chrohns instead of UC.

I would call your GI and explain what your feeling.

Colitis means inflammation in the colon, so technically no, colitis doesn't affect the small intestines, that would be crohn's....crohn's can affect any part of the GI tract from mouth to anus (and more than one area at a time) UC is limited to the colon/rectum. Doctors are suppose to discuss with IBD patients the possiblities that in the chance they actually do not have UC but CD instead that getting a total collectomy or any other types of similar surgeries may not necessarily alleviate their IBD symptoms.

It sucks that you're going through this, I hope they can find some way to stop your misery.
