Random questions on UC...is it the UC?

Hi all,

Some random questions I always think about.

1. How do you know if it's left sided lower back pain...or your colon...or your back pain is related to your colon??

2. Does anyone else get rumbles in their gut or butt that turns into gas?

3. Does anyone else get butt pain (hole) randomly during the week? Sometimes it just feels sore.

4. Minor cramping, randomly, that feel menstrual.

5. How come some mornings after an enema there is no white and some days the poo can be covered in it or streaked with no symptom changes?

I have no idea if any of this happened pre-UC because I never paid attention. Now anything out of the ordinary makes me wonder if something is going on.

I've been in remission since September though I have some blips...and from what I'm told even people without the disease have blips.

Is it all UC related? Sometimes I feel like its all in my head. UGH.

Oh yea. The rumbles lead to gas, and when I am in a flare it's really smelly too. It's one of the indicators for me that something not right is going on in there.

The pain is different to me. Sore muscle feels different than sore intestines.

Yup

3. Does anyone else get butt pain (hole) randomly during the week? Sometimes it just feels sore.

Yea, could be a few different things. It's sore from a lot of BMs, you could have a small cut, it is raw from wiping, etc.

4. Minor cramping, randomly, that feel menstrual.

 I have had cramping, but can't compare it to menstrual cramps.

Never been on an enema.

Mikesocal can you explain your difference in feeling of a sore muscle and sore intestines? I always have the same pain but not sure which it is.

For me if I put pressure on a certain part of my back at the muscle it stops. But I can't tell if it's because of the muscle or just a pressure point.

I have very similar experiences, especially the mysterious lower left back dull ache, often in the mornings. I wondered if it was kidney related but kidneys seem OK. I am not sure but it may be worse when dehydrated.

The enema thing is a mystery to me too!

I think rumbles in the gut that turn to gas is a common thing to most humans though - having lived around quite a few :-) When the smell is very bad though I think that's the sulphur reducing bacteria that tend to over populate for many of us with UC guts.

I don't think I'll know if pains were cycle related or UC related until after the menopause...

YES! and my rumbles are so noisy!

3. Does anyone else get butt pain (hole) randomly during the week? Sometimes it just feels sore.

My poor butthole can feel like a train wreck happened in there!

4. Minor cramping, randomly, that feel menstrual.

YES! and I no longer have a uterus so it's the colon!

5. How come some mornings after an enema there is no white and some days the poo can be covered in it or streaked with no symptom changes?

I assumed that was due to how the meds absorbed into the colon.

Great questions, I will be looking to see how others answer!

Hmm, kind of hard to explain. I just had back issues before I had UC, so I know what the feeling is like when I strain it...or when I have thrown out my back since I did that twice.

I guess one way to try is if you stretch/turn and the pain feels worse when doing that I would say it is your back. If the pain doesn't seem to change I would say its your intestines.
