I am not a scientist so would appreciate those with scientific training to tell me if this paper is legit.
It would explain the increase in 3rd world UC increase (by causing gut intolerances to common foods with gluten) as well as US and other countries.

I quit using Roundup but only long after I got UC. Wouldn't it be stupid if my exposure through gardening was the cause of my UC?

My very healthy spouse, non-UC, is definitely skin allergic to Round-up and cannot be near it or he is covered in whole-body rash.

Great article! As if we need another reason to eat only organic.

Unfortunately I don't think anything will be done to curb this poisoning of America that's causing chronic diseases and widespread nutritional deficiencies until some crisis really hits the fan such as agricultural workers dying of kidney disease, which has already begun. But by then it would be too late for the rest of us unless we start now to avoid as much of that crap as possible.

I don't know that it is the ultimate cause.. But could it be a trigger? Yes.

When I look at people's genetics the ones for me that stand out for UC include, NOS related snps, CYP.. In addition to the methionine cycle and folate cycle. Cysteine beta synthase is interesting to me too because of sulfur.

Cancer patients or ones with a history usually struggle in the immune snps.

Ucers have GREAT immune snps. Our darn strong immune systems ;)

Over time I believe toxins can accumulate in the human body and wreck havock. It isn't often this single event.. It's a gradual build up if a lot of things with a trigger.

You are one of the most stable in terms of symptoms on this board, so maybe there is just one small piece that needs to fall in line to give your immune system the final definitive upper hand. Maybe some switches got flipped epigenetically and some nutritional intervention could really get you sustained, less tenuous remission. You could look at neurotransmitter and vitamin deficiency to get a snapshot of where you are now. There are nutritional tests that show what is actually making it inside the cell that are much more helpful then the standard labcorp tests. Neurotransmitter testing is something my doc would like me to do next.

I've learned that when people ask questions like this the are often right.. Lol.. I thought conqueruc was a bit off base with her Sulfonomide inhibiting bacteria things.. But the darnedest thng happened and she does have overgrowths of sibs. Hah.


I find it interesting that when we talk about glycophoshate they note that the shikimate pathway is effected. We are our bugs. Once our bugs become "roundup ready" how the hell do we excise just that acquired genetic? Do we need to replace our gut flora entirely? Who knows. The powers that be say humans are safe when they know what happens in bacteria.

My 23andme results say celiac is high potential so yes I'm pre-disposed to flipping the switch but UC is not high potential in my results, lots of other things to keep an eye on. I don't feel my remission is tenuous because I never go backwards except when I choose to eat something I know is going to cause problems. And slowly I've been able to eat more foods that would be "bad" a year or two ago.

I've had so little help from tests giving me good information that at this point I'd rather rely on my gut to tell me what to do. Negative dairy and gluten tests actually hurt me because I didn't remove them from my diet. If I had removed them along with other non-tolerated foods I'd have saved years of suffering.

PK-I just started reading book you'd like called "Regenesis" by Church and Regis. Picked it up at the library. The cover says "How synthetic biology will re-invent Nature and ourselves." Oh what a brave new world is coming.

I don't believe in those disease risk assessments. I'm glad they stopped doing them and just started providing raw data.

I guess your diet isn't as restricted as most. I just think that if food can get you in a flare without a lot of effort, things are tenuous. But I hear what you are saying. You make steady progress.

See, I think you should be able to eat dairy and wheat if you have no allergy. I think you can monkey around enough with personalized medicine that you should be able to get back to homeostasis. When I see a persons genetics paired with their medical and other history it's amazing to see how we all have these kinks in our armor that can be exploited by different things and have so many varied manifestations. As humans we like to say A is A. (Any Randians?) but a is only a by way of b's interaction with c and... And.. There are so many pathways and we are just starting to scratch the surface.

I found no direct comment on the article in the mainstream journals. Maybe after some additional months.

The language sounds legit, but one author just describes himself as "independent scientist" and the other is a computer scientist.

They keep saying "associated with" or "similar to" or "sounds like" only a small amount of experimental research is reviewed. So, this is largely their theory. The next step would be to form some hypotheses and test them.

I am unsure what I think about this.

Most gmo food is round up ready which means they can douse the plants with it and it wont kill the plant. Some of the plants even produce their own internally.What it does to your body is modify your gut on a cellular level to produce its own toxin in you. Im not saying it causes UC but its just another chemical for your body to react to. I only eat organic food and stay away from toxic chemicals. 1 year and two months of my lifestyle change and im in the best health ever. I recently added raw milk to my diet from a local farm in the last few months and to my surprise it doesnt taste any different.

I also make my own bread. Believe it or not one of the preservatives they use to keep bread fresh is polystyrene. Yep its a type of plastic.

I believe the chemical cocktail of preservatives and poisons used in todays food, cleaning products, make-up, soaps, and even hygene products are whats triggering the auto immune problems.

Did you know they put lead in lipstick and dont have to tell you its in there?

I try to stay in the background, but hate to see people suffer needlessly in the name of profit...

And right here, this is the elephant in the room, your bacteria are now poisoning you because they have been cellularly programed to do it. And, the piece de resistance? Do you know what the BT toxin is designed to do for predator insects? Dissolve and break open their guts.
