Just curious how often you guys get colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, etc.
I was dx'd back in 2001. I had a colonoscopy at that time, but didn't have another one until 2012. My doc now has me getting them every two years. My sister's doc has her getting them every year.

I've had UC for 5 years now and I've had 3 colonoscopies. Polyps were only seen and removed during the second colonoscopy, which was about
3 years into my disease.

I was on an every two year schedule since my diagnosis because I also have a family history of colon cancer. I would have gone on yearly after ten years, but by then my scopes showed complete remission, so I got to stay on every two.

I've been on a two year schedule since I was DXed, but as of the last one (last month) my GI changed me to three years. :)

Well, I've only had a colonoscopy once since I've been diagnosed. I was supposed to go for an emergency one in late January but my condition improved immensely so I cancelled it. I literally felt so much better but now I seem to be back in a little flare so this time I'm going to get one and stick with it for sure, whether my condition improves or not. I'm so angry at myself for cancelling the last one.

I've had 3 in the first ten years - one for the diagnosis, and two following flare ups because it had been a while since the previous one.
I'm about
to have number 4, and will then continue to have them either once a year or every two years as I've hit the ten year mark.

According to my GI, the primary reason for our increased c-scope frequency is our increased risk of colon cancer.
We already know we have UC, so the only real benefit of a scope for that is to monitor for progression of the inflammation.

I can't seem to get a diagnosis....
so my GI's theory is to scope every two months to try again....or so it seems to me anyways

@ DM,
Thanks for the laugh! darn, my GI gave me two colonoscopies in one year. He must have gone to France and enjoyed it so much that he went back again.
