As If UC Isn't Enuf

Hi Everyone-
I've been trying not to stress over the planned April surgery to remove a flat polyp. (Post-surgery bleeding can be a serious issue.)
Even convinced myself that I'm lucky that a new surgical technique means that the old process of removing a section of colon is no longer necessary.

Anyway, I went for a "recall" mammogram yesterday and, guess what?
Now I need to schedule a stereotactic biopsy because of calcifications detected in the x-rays.
My reaction....SH-T!

Now I'm trying to convince myself that I'm LUCKY that medical science has developed techniques to tell you in advance if you're going to get breast cancer. (sarcasm intended)

Trying to maintain the "cup half full" attitude while wondering if this is what it means to live a long life.....you get to experience a variety of lovely medical conditions while supporting the medical/pharmaceutical crowd.

Thought about unloading on my friends but realized that this website is a great refuge in times of stress.
Found the Breast Cancer forum to be very useful.

And another. And another. Somehow we keep adding the new burden to the ever-enlarging pack on our backs and soldiering on.

The resilience of the human spirit is awe-inspiring.

Geez that's a lot of stuff and the waiting must very hard. Those breast biopsies are no fun, and I don't know if it helps, but all of the females in my family who have had them, the results have been benign.

Sorry for what you're going through (((HUGS))) I hope all goes well, be sure to update and I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed they don't find breast cancer!!

I'm kind of over the initial pissed off, ranting stage.
Going out today with a friend to see "The Monuments Men" and enjoying a great dinner helped greatly.

P.S. Yeah, madabs, I loved Gilda Radner. Did you see Joe Walsh perform on the Beatles 50th special?

I had a stereotactic biopsy over 8 years ago (can't remember exactly) but do remember the phone call telling me about needing it. I'll never forget the feeling of doom and going into the surgeons office (with spouse) to look at the X-rays and he showed the area of uncertainty.

So yes did the biopsy, had to ask a favor and do it quickly because we were headed out of town for 3 weeks. Drove to Florida with ice pack on b--b and planning my chemo, etc. Within a week got the call--no cancer. But never got over that feeling that life is so uncertain and can be changed by a phone call.

You will be OK no matter what. Eat dessert first (gluten-free of course). Go to a funny movie. Hug your nearest and dearest.

I agree totally with your statement:

I've been thru lots of these situations in 71 years but still hate that feeling when the rug gets pulled out from under you.

Will remember your advice, especially the part about eating dessert first.

The polyp thing sounds like it will be taken care of, which is great. The biopsy of the calcification area could turn out any which way, but the great news is that it sounds like even if the worst case scenario happened you would still be way ahead by having advanced warning.

I've had a long day so that's all I will say. I'll be thinking about ya though.
