Qustion about Meds

Hi
Had Colonoscopy Biopsy yesturday ,found Proctitis
Doc wants me on Canasa 1gram at night & Anusol he 25mg suppositiory in the am,
My Question is what is Anusol & is expensive ?
Because my insurance wants Dr aprovel first that could take some time.
Any Expirence would Help


ps i have Rowasa would that Help ?


UC Dx 2003 been in Remission past 5years (Remicada every 8 weeks )
Colazal 750 mg 3x3 a day
Mercaptopurine 50 1 1/2 a day
omeprazole 500mg 1 a day
Metformin 500mg 1a day
Azulfidine 500mg 2 a day
canasa 1 gram 3/17 started
rowasa 3/17 started

Your Rowasa enemas contain the same medication as Canasa suppositories. It would be perfectly fine to substitute them, especially since you already have them and they're paid for. My understanding is that Canasa is really expensive, so your insurance may drag their feet.

DO NOT SUBSTITUTE THEM! They are for different areas of the colon.

Rowasa is a liquid and goes higher up in the colon, more so for left sided flare ups. It passes right by the immediate anal/sigmoid junction where proctitis usually is.

The Canasa is the same medicine yes, however is used for localized proctitis, just inside the anus for the first few centimeters of the sigmoid, since it is a solid and won't travel too far...where the Rowasa usually passes right by. They both serve different locations. Canasa was a lifesaver for me.

Rowasa will (may) NOT treat the area that Canasa or Anusol HC (hydrocortisone) will....it will pass right by. These two drugs are SPECIFICALLY for proctitis, which is why they were prescribed.

i have 5 Canas and my insurance is covering them
Anusol HC might take till Monday ,so i will pay full price tomorow
53 dollars.
