Did a search here, but old posts. I see some of our current Mods have used this combo? Any feedback is appreciated. :)

I haven't flared since Dec. '11- but last years c-scope results were Mild to Mod UC.

Doc put me on 50mg 6mp for a few months, then 75, and toxicity Really increased, and he took me off. Now he's going to wait until my enzymes come back down and then try this treatment combo. Or Remi.

No blood or mucus for 2 yrs now, does this seem excessive??

Sounds like what might be medically described as indolent UC, since you are not reporting blood and mucus. Is there an issue with frequency or stool formation or urgency? I assume the doc is trying to end the inflammation to make flares less likely and maybe to reduce cancer risk.

The conversation of living with indolent UC vs stronger meds and the risks either way should be one you can have with the doc. If I could not have that conversation, I would get a new doc.

I was on the combo a couple years ago. I stopped because my wbc was too low but I was able to get into remission and I didn't have any UC concerns for quite a while after. I may try it again in the future. I think it could be a great option for those of us that don't have a great response to 6mp alone but you have to be careful that you get frequent blood work until you see how you handle the medications together.

DB- GI said I may have had UC for years prior to my flare. I don't have urgency or frequency at all. I believe he's mostly trying to avoid flares.

I understand and appreciate his concern, yet if the next step is Remi- it just seems excessive for my condition as it is now.

I'm probably just over-reacting having just got this news and that I'm feeling fine and functional except for bloating. Thought I was progressing with healing and now I'm looking at the Big Guns...

I was on it for a short time. It increased the effectiveness of my 6mp while keeping me below the toxic level, however I discovered I am allergic to Allopurinol. I broke out in a full body rash and started having abdominal pains.

TY. Did you just skip the next dose and the rash subsided? Are you long-term on the Remi?

Did I skip? No I ended up in the hospital for 3 days hooked up to morphine and a liquid diet lol But during that time I didn't take the Allopurinol and the rash subsided. However, I knew something was amiss before the rash started because the abdominal pains kept increasing, even though the GI told me it was my acid reflux and increased my Prilosec (it obviously didn't work). But yes, as of now I am on Remi for the long term.
