1) Believe it or not but this was already known prior to the 70s and dietitians prescribed high-fat low-carb diets to curb weight gain and various health ailments. This was known as "Banting" as a tribute to William Banting, who first had remarkable results on a high fat, low carb diet in the 1800s. The New England Journal of Medicine details all of this pretty clearly, but Gary Taubes revolutionized all the information in his book
hereIt also didn't help that the McGovern report ( our current dietary guidelines ) was written based on
ethical grounds and not sound science. There is almost zero evidence showing that a high carb, low fat diet is good for our health. It's actually just the opposite, as it is primarily indicated in heart disease, diabetes and metabolic disorders. Those "heart healthy" whole grains and cheerios are among the worst foods for our heart.
If the government suddenly comes out and says they were wrong, they'll be forever branded as unreputable and unreliable. It just makes them look bad to do a full reverse on their fraudulent guidelines.
2) Here's the
study that came out in 2010 vindicating saturated fat ( and subsequently cholesterol ) in heart disease. It is statistically significant because it looked at over 300,000 people:
A meta-analysis of prospective epidemiologic studies showed that there is no significant evidence for concluding that dietary saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of CHD or CVD. More data are needed to elucidate whether CVD risks are likely to be influenced by the specific nutrients used to replace saturated fat.In other words, grandma was right. Stick with butter, eggs, beef, broths and full fat milk for vibrant health.
3) I credit butter, full fat raw milk, egg yolks in helping conquer my lifelong depression. I soon found out that low cholesterol correlates pretty darn well to depression, suicide, autoimmunity, heart disease, etc. Statin drugs are arguably the single greatest fraud perpetuated in human history.
