SG,Delta,
Sorry for sidetracking. Do you guys prefer cooking with extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil? I'm using extra virgin. Should I have to cook with coconut oil too for some items?
1) I don't cook with olive oil as much anymore, but I do take a tablespoon every now and then for its anti-bacterial qualities. It is, however, an excellent cooking oil and works well for many recipes.
2) Coconut oil is a tricky one. It works really well with sweet recipes like banana pancakes, but the flavor is too strong for some of the other Indian dishes. I just chew on coconut flakes (like a chewing gum) after meals. It provides the oil pulling aspect as well as makes for a nice post-meal teeth cleaner. It also has the same benefits of coconut oil (plus a little fiber on the side).
I use
these flakes/chips, but they are available for cheap in stores in the Bob's Red Mill variety (or some other organic brand).
In general, ghee is my go-to cooking oil for it's aroma and healing benefits. High oleic sunflower oil is another good one.
