OT - Where'd the plane go?

I see them in my neighborhood every day, but they're still in the air, and they're not the right airline.

I know quite a few ASPP graduates (Parks College of Engineering and Aviation grad) and quite a few Boeing employees (McDonnell Douglas was a major local employer), but none of them have cracked the case :)

I still can't believe with all our modern tech we could still lose a large passenger airliner the size of a football field. Guess thats what makes this all the more interesting... still not afraid of flying tho .

whatever it is, it's probably not gonna turn out well - truly sad for all the folks waiting for any kind of answers -

It seems like if someone had hijacked the plane (like pirates or terrorists) for ransom they would have spoken up by now, unless their plan failed and the plane "accidently" crashed. It also seems like if terrorists or suicidal pilots wanted to crash the plane they would have just crashed it where it was instead of flying it off course for several hours and then crashing it. Terrorists would want the recognition. Maybe due to religious or insurance reasons, suicidal pilots wouldn't want the truth known so that could explain turning off communications and flying the plane off course for hours. The black boxes only keep data for the last two hours and then re-record in a loop so if they were ever found they wouldn't show what happened at the beginning, only those last couple of hours. Suicidal pilot(s) is my leading theory but these particular pilots so far don't seem to fit that picture. Maybe aliens isn't so far fetched after all.

You've all remember the Twilight Zone, that's where I think the missing plane went.

Ah The Langoliers, good Stephen King story. I liked the movie too, with the guy from Quantum leap. They destroy the past by the most efficient way possible, by eating it! Hahaha

That's the most logical explanation so far.

Maybe there's another Bermuda Triangle out there somewhere.

I flew 2000 hours across 3 log books. Dad is a retired line pilot for UAL and a good friend was Bulldog Airshows.

Some of the comments are pretty funny although not quite sure what to think of this response '...plane upside down and make it fall down rapidly (only in this way it wouldn't have been detected by radars)'...still trying to parse that one :)

Yeah well if you want to pull an Egypt Air you don't need to fly for hours and hours to off yourself plus several hundred innocent souls.

The absence sure is intriguing. Reminds me of the Al-Qaida week long hijacking of a plane with bizarre threats to 'crash it into a building'.....pre 9-11 that was a curious threat.

Perhaps this guy was just looking for Amelia Earhart.

Somebody stole it for use in a future terrorist attack. That’s why nobody’s taking credit, they don’t want to telegraph their intentions.

Wodin: If that were the case, where did the plane land? That particular jet needed a 4000 ft runway and there really aren't too many places where it had enough fuel to land, without being picked up by some country's radar. If they wanted to use the plane for a terrorist attack, why didn't they just use the plane for a terrorist attack? Same thing was said about a jet that disappeared several years ago. Supposedly just two engineers who couldn't fly were working on board a plane on the ground when it suddenly taxied to a runway and took off. It was never seen again, anywhere, despite intensive searches.

ScienceGirl: It seems if that were the case they would have already found the wreckage. The area where this could have happened was searched thuroughly. It's almost impossible for a plane to crash in the water without any debris floating. There are tons of things on a plane which wouldn't sink so debris would have been spotted. Add to that that the engines were apparently setting off pings to satellites for at least 5 hours after the plane "disappeared" makes it hard to believe the plane flew for hours and hours while on fire.
