Sulfasalazine Bad reaction??

So Im on mesalamine enemas nightly. Overall I have been doing pretty well with them. 1-2 bm no blood in 6 months and no urgency. This past couple of weeks I have started to not feel as good with a little left sided discomfort and constipation. Some thin stools too. I have an appointment with the GI on Weds but called up last week and thought maybe I should be treating this from both ends. He prescribed Sulfasalzine(2 pills 4 x day). Weds was my first day. Seemed to be fine but this evening I had some cramps(nothing too bad) but then felt like I needed to burp but could not. This has led to being nervous, Im having slight difficulty swallowing and anxiety(not common for me). Is this a reaction to the drug? I hate to stop a drug that could help me if this is just some bad indigestion? No rash or headache.

It does cause stomach upset for many. Try taking it with food or switching to enteric coating. Eat small frequent meals and avoid greasy food, caffiene, alcohol etc for a while.

Yes im definitely staying with the enemas. I think Im done with sulfasalazine I think. Took my morning dose and felt bad again. Chills stomach off and troubles swallowing. Three hours after that dose I felt better. Took my lunch dose and again felt bad again for three hours. Its a shame because my morning poop was the best Ive had in a month. This was just my 5th day on the drug(not sure if these symptoms will go away?). Ill see what the doc says tomorrow and see him on weds. Not sure why he prescribe it not a 5 asa since I seem to do ok with the enemas(ok with enemas ok with it orally??). Any suggestions what I should ask for next?
