Am I imagining things, or does Asacol break down better when taking a probiotic? Prior to taking my probiotic, I saw numerous shells of my Asacol. Some were more than just the red coating. When I poked them they were soft with white filling. Now that I'm taking a probiotic, I almost never see evidence of the Asacol. If I do, it's fragments of the red coating.
The reason I ask is because I got bumped up to a higher drug because Asacol wasn't stopping the progression of my disease. I improved on a macroscopic level, but not beyond that. I hate taking more serious drugs than I need. I'm wondering if the reason the Asacol wasn't doing enough is because it wasn't breaking down sufficiently before.
It's tough for me because, for as sick as my colon is (pancolitis according to the pathology reports from biopsies), I really don't have much in the way of symptoms. I can't really 'feel' what's working or not. I'll have another scope in 6 months for biopsies. That means I'm on Azasan until at least that time...unless my liver enzymes complain the way they did with 6mp.
