Can anyone tell me in easy to understand terms, how I get rid of yahoo and switch to google for my search engine? I hate computers, we've always used google and noticed that the google search bar isn't on our home page when we go onto the internet, it always gives us Yahoo whenever we type something into the search engine and we hate it lol!

Are you saying you want a google search engine toolbar instead of a yahoo search toolbar on your main page? Don't have time now to figure it out but you can use the yahoo search to bring up the google search engine, bookmark it, and then just use that for now instead of using your main page search.

I just installed Google's search engine (Chrome) and it asked me if I wanted to make Google my home page. I think that's all you need to do. Install Chrome and ditto.

I use multiple search engines because some sites don't like my old friend Safari but that's where most of my bookmarks are lol.

I am in charge of email for my volunteer group of 200 and quit using Yahoo Mail over 6 months ago (switched to Google). But someone hacked that Yahoo account and has been sending stupid spam to the list. Yahoo is not doing their job protecting customers.

You should have been able to right click on it then hit delete,or if using IE click tools internet options

and change the home page to google.

What is your internet browser?

In firefox go to options > home page > change it from yahoo to google

It doesn't take as long as some believe. Always look into the options area.

You can change your home page to google if you like. I have google.co.uk set as my home page. (You would probably want the Canadian version in your case, which will be www.google.ca)

What is your home page at the moment?

Go to my computer. Look for internet options. You should see yahoo as your search engine. X it out and put google.com in and save. That should take care of it

Thanks guys, I have windows 8 sorry I should have mentioned that initially...I did get to Google using Yahoo and tried to download "google chrome tool bar" and it said complete but I still don't see it on my main google chrome page when I open my internet. On my main page up at the top left hand side I have a search engine and anytime I search it takes me to Yahoo and I don't even know how or why and only just noticed this a few days ago lol...

I will try your suggestions, thanks! Nice that you guys can help with other things besides IBD crap hahaha!

Hmmm, I can't find anything in "my computer" that says yahoo anywhere to delete it :( I'm so confused lol! I just keep trying to download google chrome for my home page, my icon on my main screen has a google chrome that we use to get online but as soon as we get online there's no "google" search bar, just a blank bar on the top left hand side of the page and anything we type in it to do a search automatically takes us to yahoo :(

They meant to say "control panel" not "my computer". I forgot how to get to the control panel on Windows 8 but I will let you know tomorrow as my dad has it. He's sleeping right now though.

You can also always check in your "programs and features" or the location where you uninstall programs and see if you can uninstall any yahoo toolbars, etc. They really take up space on your computer.

I would think you could make these changes from the Internet page... when you have the browser open there should be a tab/option to edit Internet Options or Preferences. Like under File or something.

Can you right click in the area that the search bar is? Sometimes you can and delete it. You should be able to right click up around the address bar and add and subtract things to your toolbars.

Yahoo recently became the default at work for our client computer and i changed it back to Google.

Your right it is control panel. I have it on windows 8. From there go to internet options. It will then show you what your your browser is. Just went there to check mine out. I did not like how windows 8 looked. I got an app to make window 8 look like windows 7.

Yeah, I get into my control panel via "my computer" so your instructions were still correct faithmac, I still can't see where it shows me what my browser is though lol, didn't see Yahoo in my control panel, just the google chrome that I downloaded (a few times lol) but it still never gave me a search bar...I'll get hubby to give it a try, sometimes between the 2 of us we can get our computer on the right track.

Yup, I tried to find it in there and didn't see yahoo installed anywhere or for that matter Yahoo anywhere in the programs and features lol.

I found it!!! but if I delete the yahoo one will it automatically put a google one in? I don't want to delete it and have no search engine (can that happen) lol I told you I suck with computers lol

YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!! I did it, Google was in my settings too, so I deleted the Yahoo one and made the google one my default and now I have the google search engine in the middle of my google page again just as I wanted!! whoohoo, thanks for your help you guys, you're the best!

I right clicked on the search engine tab up at the top and that's how I got into the place to change it (see I can't even remember what was called lol) major brain fogger here! Oh it was edit search engines but I swear when I tried it yesterday it did nothing, I must not have had my cursor in the right spot, but it's done now, thanks all!

Hahaha, thanks guys!! It doesn't help that they're always changing them, and not necessarily for the better either...I finally get used to a program then they change it and everything is foreign to me again and I can't keep up...hate them!!
