Something helpful (maybe) for those under pred that doesnt work

(excuse my english it's not my mother language)

Some people try pred to calm their flares, and notice that it doesnt do anything, and then go for another med that is heavier (remicade, etc).

But, but, but...

Before switching to another of those meds, please try another brand of pred !

There are 3 or 4 brands (at least here in France), and I know many people who react differently from a brand to another.

So before thinking that pred doesnt work for you, try another brand and see if it's still the case as well or not. You could be delighted by the result.

Yes I mean brands (or labo who make the molecule).

Here in France we have several brands, also, we make the distinction between prednisone and prednisolone.
So some of those can have very good results on some people, whereas other can do nothing for them, very mysterious but true.
So it's worth it testing several brands before abandoning preds for good :)

Remicade and immunosuppressors in general could have worse side effects than pred. They also expose the body to all the viruses and microbes because they take out all the natural defenses.
But it depends on each person and their reaction to each med.

There is a difference between prednisone and prednisolone. I believe prednisolone is a little stronger than prednisone. I think it is more of a difference in what country you are in as to which one is prescribed. As a rule the medical profession only prescribes one and not the other, even though both are available in many places. Usually the doctors just take this into account when prescribing and if a higher dose is needed then they just prescribe a higher dose and not change from one to the other. As to whether they are actually any different when comparing strength to strength I don't know.

Just in case this wasnt common knowledge, prednisone and prednisolone are essentially the same drug. Prednisone is the "pro-drug" form, meaning it has essentially no activity in the body until it is digested by the liver into prednisolone. So IF prednisolone is stronger, its probably just because more of the active drug (prednisolone) is getting into circulation.

Agreed and here is an illustration of why.

During my divorce which serves as initial custody hearings I took the "A-Train" or antabuse to demonstrate to the court that of the two adult drinkers - this one is proving he is not depended on booze.

Antabuse interferes with the liver enzyme converting prednisone to prednisolone. NOTHING was happening from prednisone, I entered the hospital and solumedrol ( prednisolone ) did the job prednison was unable to do.

There are many reasons why your body may not break prednisone down efficiently. Prednisolone bypasses that step and goes right to work.

Doctor wrote - "Forever no antabuse" on a prescription.
